Small Seb inlay question

Hi guys,

I am looking at buying a small classic seb and I really like the wood inlays over the micarta or plain Ti. I plan on using the knife as an EDC and I am just wondering about the durability of the inlays. Does anyone know of any problems with them? How durable are they?

Thanks for reading.

The wood inlays are quite durable -- I've seen well over 50 EDC classic Sebenzas and Mnandis with wood inlays that others have carried, with an accumulated carry time of well over 100 years. Without exception they looked quite nice.

My only caution would be if your knife is going to see an extended period of dwell time in water. My first EDC Mnandi had camelthorn inlays. I used to carry it IWB next to sweaty skin during workouts, and it also went skiing with me and was wet for a continuous 16 hrs (didn't discover it 'til the next day, still in the damp pocket). After 6 mo. of that sort of abuse, the once glass-smooth finish was pretty rough.

I carry a Small Snakewood everyday, and beat the crap out of it, finish looks brand new. I think wood holds up better than Ti actually...

Thanks guys,
I still cannot make up my mind between a small classic plain and small classic wood inlay.

I like the look of the inlays over the plain, but I am having trouble getting my mind around that the fact they are stuck down by double sided tape and not screwed in. I see from Fooj and Nickzak posts they have had good experiences with the inlays (thanks guys).

This is going to be my EDC and I want to have something very durable, but still pleasant to look at.

Any else have some experience/opinion good or bad with the inlays compared to plain Ti?

Another thing that is a slighty worrying is that from what I can gather CRK does not warranty the natural products used in ther knives (wood inlays?). I may be wrong about this but I recall reading it in their lifetime warranty. I guess this is CRK saying the Ti is more durable than wood inlay?

Thanks for reading.

The "double sided tape" is actually "VHB tape" (=very high bonding). Its used for industrial applications as well, so it`s tough stuff.

I`ve been carrying a large Sebenza with Ivory inlay for about 7 months now, and there are no problems with the inlay coming lose. Also, I dont think I`ve ever heard of a lose inlay, on this forum... .

As for plain vs. inlaid. One observation I just made today (got a large plain classic about 24 hrs ago) is that the inlaid model only weighs about 125 grams, while the plain one weighs 135 grams! So the plain ones seem to be a little heavier...?!
