If you don't like seeing irreversable mods to CRK's, turn back now.... ;)

OK, still here....

I've got several small Sebs, including a couple of double lugs that I bought so I could open them with either hand since I'm ambidextrious. I noticed my large Sebs open just fine with the offside hand, but the small sebs just don't have enough gap between the ti lockbar and the thumbstud.

So I took one of my double lugs and the only suitable tool I could find over here, a round jeweler's file, and did a little trimming. Now before you point out how imperfect the filing is, remember I'm in the sandbox and don't have the tools I'd normally use at my disposal. ;) When I get back to the States I'll probably trim it down and even it up, then send it to be re-blasted. But for now I have a small sebbie that I can open with either hand. :D

Here's the finished (for now) job.

Here's a comparison of the lockbar shape before and after.

Here's a view from the angle my thumb approaches the stud.

And here's the knife with the little file I did the work with.

But.. how do you close it? Index finger reach-around?

No, nothing like that. If I'm using the left hand I just push the lockbar toward my palm and start the close with my index finger. The only difference between left and right hand closing is that the thumb is making a pulling motion instead of pushing. My most carried large Seb is actually a lefty that I open and close with either hand the same way.

Here's a pic.

All things considered, that's really good work! Improvise. Overcome. --Excellent. (imo)

Now what I'm going to do is swap out the modified back with the one from the Freedom Seb in this pic. They happened to have been born just a week apart, so it won't even be a mismatch. Then the Freedom will go back to being the small Sebbie that I carry most of the time.

A trick you could use for further improvement is use a small cap on a coke bottle or such, outline the arch with a pencil on the TI and the use that as a marker to get the shape a even half moon or such when filing. Hope that makes sense.

As a lefty who has had to use a fair amount of right handed knives, I'd suggest trying the following method: place your thumb near the pivot, place your index finger along the spine of the blade, and use your middle finger to kind of pinch the lock bar over. This way you don't put unnecessary pressure "down" into the lock, it is only "across" or "over"--plus your thumb keeps you from over-extending the lock bar.

Great job LW. While in the Sandbox, I'm sure that in some way or another, you must engineer a solution or work-around for something almost daily; either out of necessity or convenience, which can often be one-in-the-same.

Noooooooooo.... What have you done to that poor, poor Sebenza!

;)

Kind regards,

Jos

I found it :)

It works, you're happy with it, and it looks fine to me

Yep, it works just fine. Thank you.

You got that right!

Great job. Have you considered offering a modding service. :D

;)

Haha, you're going to get me lynched. :D :D

I made it mine. Really mine. And I haven't heard it complain about all the pocket time it gets not that I can use it so easily. ;) ;)
