Recently, I was toying around with my mini ritter griptilian and my small classic seb, and I noticed that they have the same thumbstuds. Odd I thought as I figured CRK would use something a little different. Well after seeing some pics, I noticed that CRK does use something different. Here's some pics. Should I be worried?

now i did get this in a trade here. so it wasnt straight from crk, but the thing is it has everything i would expect from a crk (it is my first), solid lock up, no blade play, etc, etc but the thumb studs threw me for a loop. any input?

it looks cool, but if you werent told it was altered and didnt see pics first, the seller was not cool.

If it were mine, I'd send it back to CRK for two reasons: 1) to verify whether it is a genuine CRK knife, and if so 2) to change the thumb lugs back to the correct (CRK) versions.

Obviously you have a real Sebenza. I (otherwise) agree with peter r. They're not the stock thumb studs, but some would argue that what you have is an improvement. Are you a purist? You could always have it changed back. Chill. Be happy. :) The thumb stud does not, a Sebenza make, and hey!... you have two of 'em... a definite improvement!!!

You should contact the previous owner and see whats going on. I've seen 1 other person do that to their seb so it isn't something "new" per se.

If it bothers you then send it in to CRK. They will replace it for you for a charge of course unless the hole through the blade for the thumb studs have been damaged. Explain to them that the studs were replaced without your knowledge from the previous owner. They will understand and try their best to accommodate your needs. If it does not bother you then use the knife!

It's more than likely authentic, the owner just changed out the thumbstuds, I have done this to my sebby and it totally made it 10 times better because I don't particularly like the stock ones.

I put BM mini grip studs on my small regular. The studs don't just fit right on and need to be doctored. I would hope it was the studs and not the blade that were altered in this case.

It looks to me like you have one that was swapped out. Swap em back and you may not even like opening it as much. Some people have complained that the stud was too hard to catch accurately on the Sebenza so maybe someone grew tired of their thumb missing the stud and just put one on there that they could hit each time everytime because it sticks out ever so slightly more making it easier to get their thumb on when they wanted to open the blade.

If you like the way it opens & the way it looks, Leave it alone, You may not like the originals as much. A lot of people say they like BM studs way better.

I prefer the altered stud you have on it. Not cool by the seller at all. But I wish I had it on mine.

I actually emailed CRK about this very issue...asking if my warranty would be void if I swapped the stock stud for one from my BM. They said yes it would be void...needless to say I didn't end up altering the stud.

No question, it's not a CRK stud. Now man up and send it in to get one put on so you can soon begin enjoying the CRK thumb callous(es) that we all had to develop.

Nice classic, either way though.
