Small Seb vs. Mnandi ?

Hello everyone,
Well, I have had my Small Classic Seb for a few months and
it really has killed my knife buying habit ! Nothing compares
to it ! :) I am getting an itch for a Mnandi, but I will have
to sell my Seb inorder to afford a Mnandi. I dont use my Seb
for any heavy cutting, so I dont think A Mnandi would be too
small. My question is... Is it worth it ? I wear blue jeans
99% of the time so I am afraid the clip on the Mnandi will break.
Can someone post a picture of a Mnandi and Small Seb side by
side. Any personal use info would help also.

Thanks,
Ram

About the last thing on the Mnandi you have to worry about breaking is the clip. It is a solid piece of titanium thicker than the clip on your small Sebenza.

Ram,

I have both a small Sebbie and an Mnandi. Like you, these two knives have killed or at least severely hurt my knife buying. I'll have to say that the Sebbie is a more versatile knife, IMHO. It's the one I carry when I'm away from work/the office. If I were you I'd keep the Sebbie and work on getting an Mnandi later. Maybe you can trade up to one at a gun/knife show by putting several less expensive knives up for it. that's how I got my Mnandi.

I would hang on to the Sebbie and save up for the Mnandi. Yeah, the waiting is hard, but it's worth the wait.

Don't sell the Sebbie Classic for a Mnandi. While Mnandi is great...the small Classic is one of the best jeans wearing knives around. The way the clip fits perfect on the top of the pocket won't be matched by the Mnandi clip. While the Mnandi can cross over nicely to jeans, the small classic lives in a pair of jeans.

Save for the Mnandi and keep your Classic where it belongs.

Thanks for all the replies ! I think I will just fight the urge
and save up for a Mnandi. I deal in vintage watches for a hobby
also, so maybe I will run into someone who wants to trade. I agree
that I should keep my Sebbie. I know I will regret it later if
I sell it. I would like to see a picture of a Mnandi and Sebbie
side by side so I can get a perspective on size differences and
because I just want to torture my self !!!:D  :D

Thanks,
Ram

A wise choice Ram. You won't regret your decision, and the Mnandi IS worth the wait.

I have owned both the Mnandi and small Classic wood inlay. I was not using the Mnandi at all and sold it off.

The small Sebenza is my favorite of all the knives owned over many years, this included several very expensive big name customs.

The Mnandi is nice for dress wearing in shirt or jacket pocket however, I find it too small for EDC.

FK,
is the Mnandi really that much smaller then the small
Sebbie ? I am still waiting on a picutre to be posted inorder
to see. I am an Engineer, so I sit at a desk or in a lab all
day. I would like it to be big enough to cut some heavy cord
rope if I need to do that. The small Sebbie just doesnt seem to
have any "flare" to it. I want a knife that will handle small
to medium task and also look good so I can play with it while
sitting at my desk looking over some boring design ! Man, I hate
wanting something, but I am also cheap and dont like to pay
retail for anything ! :D I must be strong !:grumpy:

Thanks,
Ram

You're gonna want both. I took the clip off my Mnandi, and carry mine in a nice leather slip pouch. To me, it's about the perfect office/EDC/gents knife.

Hi Ram
I'm sorry but I cannot work out how to post a picture!
I own a small seb, mnandi, and an umfaan do if you want a picture to compare them please drop me an e-mail (adisimmonds@hotmail.com).
My advice is keep the sebby and save for a mnandi (take your time and get one with a different inlay). The best one though IMHO is the Umfaan!

I ordered a Mnandi and ended up returning it for a small Sebby (partly because the inserts wern't what I was expecting). The Mnandi feels much smaller in the hand then the Sebenza, much more so then it would appear from looking at pics. The knife is also much thinner and lighter. While I know that it's a plenty strong knife I couldn't get past the fact that it felt almost...well...umh...dainty!?! It makes a truly great gents knife and if I dressed up a lot or wore a suit to work I would have one for my EDC. But I don't, I hardly ever dress up and I wear jeans both at work and away from work. I find the small Sebenza to be much more comfortable (can actually open it one handed without any trouble) and the perfect size for a jeans carry EDC.

I am going to keep the Sebbie because seems like I will regret it
if I dont. I got a really good deal on it, so why do a stupid
thing by selling.

Thanks,
ram

I traded my small regular seb for a mnandi and thought it was the coolest lttle knife ever, but it turned out not what I wanted. The blade was too small and overall it was too pretty and I was afraid to use it. so, I sold it and bought a large regular seb and I'm perfetly happy. I have a small regular seb on the way and i think that will be the perfect combination. Now, I think if Chris came out with a Mnandi that had a wharncliff blade it would be much more useful.:)

I would dearly love to see a Wharncliffe blade on either the Mnandi or on the updated Umfaan. I think that blade design is perfect for a "Gent" knife.

Ram,
I am also an Engineer and sit in front of a PC most of the day. Nothing like flicking open/close a Sebenza when thinking of how to improve a boring design.

The Mnandi may be perfect for you however, the knife is more difficult to open/close than the small Sebenza. It can be operated with the thumb after some practice.

All of my CRK knives have the clips removed and I carry them in the Sebenza leather pouch (I also removed the clip on my Mnandi and used a pouch). This makes for a smaller print in your pocket and the knife is transformed into a sheeple friendly mode.

Regards,
FK
