I am in the market for a new knife and was thinking about either a small sebbie or a mnandi. I already edc a large classic seb and it is without a doubt the best knife I've ever owned. So I was thinking about something a little smaller to have and to sometimes edc.

So which would you chose and why?

Get Both.

No really, I am favoring the mnandi over the small seb lately. It is really a tough little knife and it just disappears in your pocket.

Well I would love both but my wallet would have a heart attack and die. So for my wallets well being I think I should only get one. I would just hate to get the Mnandi and say oh it's to small or get the small Sebbie and say oh it's just the same knife as my other Sebenza only smaller. Then feel like I missed out somehow by getting one versus the other.

I should just win the lottery and then no more knife delemas.

Go for the Mnandi...the perfect combo..the Lg. Classic for the tough jobs and a Mnandi for the easy stuff or dressier occasions.

I have a Small Seb, but I think I'd go for the Mnandi for the reasons already mentioned. You have a good working knife; why not go for something a bit more fancy while giving up little in terms of performance?

I thought the same thing about the Mnandi until I carried one for a while. It is (IMHO) all you will need during the coarse of a normal day. Obviously, you won't want to baton wood for a campfire with it, but it is really a workhorse.

Go to a dealer and play around with both of them and then choose. Either way you cannot go wrong, both the sm seb and mnandi are great knives.

Good luck.

I had to chuckle on the post stating the Small Seb was "More Manly". I would go with the Mnandi as I have both a Large Sebenza and the Mnandi and I too vascillated over getting the small Seb over the Mnandi. In the end, I'm glad I went with a different style knife (mnandi) as the Small Seb is just a scaled down large Seb. However, if it is not for your liking ... you can always find a buyer here in this forum for either one. Live a little and treat yourself to the Mnandi. I bet you'll be most pleasantly surprised!!

I owned a Mnandi and just let me say, it was a beautiful knife. Snakeskin Inlays and Snakeskin Damaskus Blade. I just like the feel of the Sebenzas build better. Has some heft to it and I always felt I had to wipe it down and check it for marks after looking and opening it. I never did carry it or cut with it.

I have a small sebbie and a mnandi. For me, the small sebbie is my EDC. It just feels stronger than the mnandi. Not that the mnandi is a slouch, but the small sebbie definitely has more heft and (I think) is a better worker than the mnandi.

The mnandi is my dress up knife. If I worked in an office environment, it would be my EDC and it would do the job without any trouble whatsoever. I love both knives and I think they both have their place.

I guess the question you have to answer is what does EDC mean to you? What's your normal environment? Office worker? Get a mnandi. Work from home or out and about town or retired? Get a small sebbie. Working the trades or an outdoorsman, probably a large sebbie.

Only you can answer these questions. :)

That IS a tough decision. Get the Mnandi, because it is different, but still IS a tough little knife.

I agree with westllen - small Sebenza or Mnandi? The best answer is yes. (i.e. both)

I EDC a large regular Sebenza. The small regular Sebenza is for when I want something lighter, when wearing shorts, or smaller, when flying somewhere with a 3" blade length restriction, or working somewhere the large Sebenza raises eyebrows. The Mnandi is for dressing up, carried either in its pouch, or clipped inside a dress shirt pocket like a pen. That can lead to interesting conversations when someone sees the Ti clip and wants to borrow or look at the cool pen.

If you can only afford one now, I guess the question is whether you want the smaller size, in which case I'd say go for the small Sebenza, or a dress knife, in which case I'd go for the Mnandi. On the other hand, there's always the wood or leather inlaid small classic Sebenzas. Decisions, decisions... So many knives, so little time (and money) Since anticipation is half the fun, enjoy!

I'd ask one question first - what do you do with your EDC knife. If you do only light cutting where the small Mnandi handle isn't a problem, I'd go with the Mnandi. It will do all you ask and leaves lots of room in your pocket!

Of course, you could purchase the Mnandi now then go for the small Sebbie later in the year . . . . ah, disposable income.

I like the small Seb better. I've had a couple Mnandis and while I love them, especially asthetically, I just don't find them as comfortable to carry and use as my small Sebenza.

Mnandi for me. Love the mammoth ivory scales. It is light and it fits better in my pants pocket since I have an office job.

I carry the micarta small seb on weekends. Cannot go wrong with CRK.
