Small Sebbie (regular) w/combo edge. How rare?

I was shown a small Sebbie w/combo edge at this past weekend's C&E show. The serrations had been done at the CRK factory. The dealer did his best to talk me into buying it but I'm just not that crazy about combo edges. However, I am now wondering if I missed an opportunity to pick up a collectible or possible trade bait. How rare and/or sought after is this variation?

It's not rare especially, you can order serrations put on a new knife from CRK.

It's relatively rare, but only because people obviously don't really care for it overall. As Dave said, you can get it on any Sebenza at any time as a factory option and you can even send your Sebenza back to have it done. Rare yes, but exclusive--no. :D

This is not true. Serrations can only be put on knives that are new orders and have not had the heat treat done yet. This info was provided to me by Brigdet.

Yes it is. The serrations are a $21 option on top of the base price of $305. You should have grabbed it.

So is it worth the $270.00 I was quoted?

You would have saved about $50 bucks, but who likes serrated. :barf:

Your best bet is to buy a slightly used for around $225-$250.

I like serrated edge for a under 3” blade. I consider I don’t obtain the relevant cutting power for my daily purposes with a small plain edge… it is a matter of taste. :p

In addition, the CRK factory made serrations are discreet : for me the Sebenza design is not very affected. Conversely, I think the large Sebenza blade doesn’t require serrations, the cutting length is long enough.

I understand what you're saying but chances are the dealer still has it and I can email him and have it on the way to my house this afternoon if I elect to do so. I didn't want to act rashly and buy a knife from which I could not later get my money's worth. It's not a knife I would have kept or will keep if I get it. I'm not crazy about combo edges which seems to be an opinion shared by many. It would be a speculative purchase meant to be used as trade bait or to put up for sell and not everyone would be interested in such a knife.

voodoos right, i think you might have a real hard time selling it. For some reason a serated blade detracts from the overall looks. But thats just imo.

Hey Trane,

I saw the serrations on that knife you were looking at, and they looked much different than the ones in the picture above in this thread. They had smaller teeth and the ground out part (not sure what to call them, the part that is scooped out but does not go all the way through the blade) kept going much higher up the blade and were straight and shallow. They sort of looked like the serrations on a knife for slicking roast beef, if you know what I mean.

It may have been custom serrations from CRK or they may have been done elsewhere.

I'm glad you jumped in here Chris because I had thought the same thing re: the discrepancy between the Sebbie we saw and the one pictured in Louky's post but I wasn't sure. I'm not sure what the history is behind those unique serrations but I'm not going to pursue the Sebbie. tf

I’m the first owner of this Sebenza and I’m sure the serrations are factory made by CRK (it was my only particular order option). To be honest, I was expecting that the serrations will be the others (like on the Green Beret), but finally, I’m glad with these ones. :)

Have a nice day ! :D

Louky I knew yours had been modified at the factory just by it's appearance. I could see that the quality and evenness of the serrations was much better than on the sample I saw at the show. That pic help a great deal. I appreciate it.
