Small Sebenza 25?

Now that the 25 has been out there for awhile, we're seeing a Micarta version & perhaps even wood inlays down the road. Since the forum group is pretty evenly divided between small & large Sebenzas, what do you think about CRK releasing a SMALL 25 version?

Is it practical? Is it needed? Is it desired?

It is a given that they should make one. I have yet to handle a 25, but I probably will get one someday.

It seems to me the 25 is intended to go in much the same direction as the Umnumzaan. There is no small Umnumzaan, no blade options ouside of a dealer exclusive tanto, no damascus either. It's their tough, dare I say it, "tactical" folder that just simply does what a folding knife is supposed to do. It's not there to show case machining or anodising ability, a of range inlay materials or the beauty of damascus.
I, along with everyone else, expected a small 25 but I think it will be less likely to happen in favour of a new smaller knife design. There was of course the micarta inlay 25 but I feel the road probably does run out there. The thing with CRK though is you really just never know what they will do. :p

I much favor the small sebenza, it is much more practical for my uses. I would buy a small 25 as soon as they were released! However, as this point I don't think it is going to happen any time soon.

Maybe I read way too much into the name or maybe it was hopefull thinking, but the 25 is labeled as large. Even on the CRK website, so I assumed there would be a small. I would pick one up in a heartbeat. At this point maybe it will be a Sebenza 28, 29 or 30.

They could also take a more subtle route. They could re-engineer the small 21 slightly to remove the hole in the frame and make slight alterations to shape. It wouldn't be a small 25 exactly but it might fit the bill.

Tactical is exactly how I feel about the Umnumzaan. You're so right in describing its' simplicity of look and purpose. When you parse out inlays and other decorative touches, and actually using any CRK, for that matter, has taught me to appreciate your spot-on description.

Yeah if it's named 'large' then a small is inevitable. Of course you want to milk profits from the large before releasing the small.

The unnum isn't sold as large because there's no size choices

I'd be interested in a small 25 with wood inlay, preferable a 1 piece?

Good point.

To make a small, if that is in the works, I think they would have to change the handles. Don't think the extra finger groove on the current 25 would work out on a smaller version. For me personally I would rather see a 25 Insingo than a Small 25 but that is just a personal preference.

Same here

As much as we like to think CRK is some villainous company trying to drain our bank account, I don't think the concept of them 'milking profits from the large', holds water. No offense Hwangjino, but if they had two sizes, many of us would own both, which would likely mean more profits. They'd certainly get a few more dollars out of my pocket.

Anyways........I would guess it takes a lot of expense and effort to design, prototype, then build all the jigs required to manufacture a new size, including fine tuning of the entire assembly. It is likely a project that requires a huge investment of time that is not easy to do while still trying to meat the demands of producing your current line up, especially for a small company. Spyderco puts out lots of models from their various worldwide contract factories, but if you look at what comes out of their Golden factory, its pretty much just PM2s and a few others added and subtracted at times. In comparison to the output of Spyderco Golden, we are actually lucky to have the product range we have from CRK.

I hope a small is in the works, cause it would be cool. I certainly don't need a small 25 to go about my business.

When I spoke to Chris at the Blade Show, I asked him about a small 25. He said that it would take redesigning the knife and that it was not going to happen.

Pretty sure we'd all buy anything of any size CRK offered/offers.

But I echo Muaddib, I hope the small eventually becomes a 7.5" medium and that a sebenza the size a Mnandi would emerge as the new small. I'd buy a medium 25 if it existed. Although the current small is virtually perfect in my eyes. I'd buy a small 25 but doubt it'd replace my small 21. The small 21 is exactly as I like my knives, thin and flat, the opposite of how I like my lady. :devilish:

I have never held a 25 but sure they are great. I am still holding out for a small Umnumzaan. I have to get to Boise and personally talk to Chris about this....I am sure that would make a world of difference......:-)
