Small Sebenza 31: Interchangeable blades?

Let’s say I have two Small Sebenza 31s, one with a drop point blade and one with an insingo blade. Could I switch the blades, i.e., put the insingo blade on/in the handle of the one that originally had the drop point blade?

I’ve emailed this question to CRK and am waiting to hear back, but I’m also interested in hearing y’all’s experience.

Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I just assumed op was asking before investing in one or both

You’re right. I don’t have any Small Sebenzas right now. What I’m lusting after is a Small Sebenza 31 w/ box elder inlay and an insingo blade. I can’t find one at any retailer anywhere, but I can find one with a drop point blade. What I’d be willing to do is buy the drop point version and see if I could get CRK to sell me just an insingo blade. Or, buy a PJ Small Sebenza w/ an insingo blade and just swap them out. I’m well aware that this sounds kind of insane, but I *really* want this configuration and am giving up hope on finding one in the wild. If the only way I can get one is to Frankenstein one together, then I’m willing to do it.

I’ll let you all know what CRK says if they get back to me. Still interested in hearing from people who may have tried this.

In theory: no problem!
But with the hand fitting: reality might bite you on the butt...

I have had no issues swapping blades around on a few large SHFs, CRK may be a different animal though

Unless something's changed you can buy an extra or "replacement blade from CRK. You need to send the knife in so they can "fit" the new blade to that knife, they won't just sell you a blade and ship it to you.

I can't off the top of my head remember positively, but I'm almost sure they will do an Insingo blade for a knife having an original drop point.

Edit : the more I think it may be that if you buy an Insingo version they will fit a drop point to that knife, but if you originally purchase a dropin point they won't fit an Insingo to that knife? I can't remember the reasoning, but I do remember reading that somewhere.

But call CRK instead of emailing and they should give you a direct answer.

You'll have to call to be sure, but I thought I had read this somewhere. A search brought this up ... https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...21-insingo-or-drop-point-blade.1656540/page-2
I just got off the phone with Chris Reeve customer service. I explained to the rep how I couldn't decide which blade and she gave me some information I wasn't aware of.

If you buy a Sebenza with an Insingo blade not only can you buy a replacement blade but you can also purchase a drop point version as well. She said if the initial knife came with a Drop point blade you can only buy a drop point blade. Been calling back trying to get another rep on the phone to confirm this.

If it is true I can buy an insingo and in a few years just switch it to drop point if I wanted to. options are good no?

From what I’ve read, you’ll need to buy the Small Sebenza 31 w/ box elder inlay Insingo or Tanto blade to be able to get a Drop Point installed.

So, if you want the Insingo you need to find one cause they ain’t going to put a Insingo blade on any DP or Tanto.

Thanks for all this info, y’all. I really appreciate it. I’ll let you know what CRK says, but it sounds like my Frankenstein plan probably won’t work. Oh well. I’ll survive.

Heard back from CRK today. Here it is, straight from the horse’s mouth.

“The blades are not interchangeable because they are hand-fit to each particular knife.”

For the record, here was how I put the question.

“Are the different blade styles — insingo, drop point, etc. — on the Small Sebenza 31s interchangeable? In other words, if I have two Small Sebenza 31s, one with an insingo blade and one with a drop point blade, could I switch the blades out?”
