Has anyone here ever heard of or seen one of the inlays fall out? I understand that the inlays are adhered with some sort of very strong double-sided tape. Is there a chance of the inlays falling out under heavy use in hot and humid conditions (I think of the micarta inlays in particular)?

Thanks

Never heard of that happening. I'm sure if they ever did, Chris Reeves would fix it.

The tape that is used is 3M "VHB" (very high bonding), and according to CRK it is usually used for industrial applications. One example that I recall in particular, is some sort of glass paneling on a ceiling at O`Hare airport.

That being said, I`m pretty confident, and don`t think that it will fail. And in the unlikely case that it does, its just like njacob said-CRK will fix it. ;)

I'm real curious if the tape completely fills the void where the inlay sits, or is it a dab in the middle?

It is stamped out in the shape of the inlay so it fits almost all of the space. CRK doesn't cut corners by putting a square piece of tape in there!

njacob,

You may want to check out CRK's DVD on the making of the Sebenza. It's a real eye opener and pretty much any questions you have in regards to; not only the 3M tape, but all other aspects of the knife making process of Chris's products will be answered. Here's a link to the DVD...

Reached in my pocket for my small Sebenza one day and pulled out a micarta inlay. Sent both the inlay and knife to CRK and got it back about 5 weeks later. The 1 yr old Sebenza was totally refurbished back to its original condition.

So...Does it happen? Yep, although the probability of it happening to you is very low.

I have the knife already for a while, but it was just something I was wondering about.

Thanks
