Recently,I've been carrying a Large Sebenza for a tactical or EDC,and
a Fallkniven P as a gentleman's or dress knife.I've also been entertaining the notion that a Small Sebenza might well be able to replace both knives.I've never owned the smaller model, but it would seem to possess the same strength as the Large, due to the same blade design and thickness, and similar handle and integral lock.
Is the Small Sebenza large and capable enough to use as a tactical knife, while being small and light enough to consider as a gentleman's folder? If not the Small Sebenza, any other recommendations?Your replies will be welcome and appreciated.

I carried my first Sebenza regularly, a large serrated. Then I got a small classic, and it immediately replaced the large as daily carry. It is much more comfortable, especially in lightweight clothing weather :)

Let's do the numbers again. You give up about .75" handle length and .5" blade going from a large to a small. Not really a significant problem for ordinary use.

When I got my Darrel Ralph EDC, It replaced the small Sebenza more often than not, although not always, and it is the same 3" blade, 4" handle size.

Tactical? What's that mean? :) I do occasionally slip a large tanto Sebenza into a pocket on a latenight walk, although I have yet to be convinced of the sense of a knife for selfdefense. I personally take tactical to mean capable of use in the field, especially under wartime conditions. Not so much a fighting knife as a tough tool for hacking, prying, breaking & entering -- maybe give the Sebbie a break and carry a crowbar :D

The small Sebenza is my main one hander. I've never felt lacking for it's smaller size.

The small Sebbie is the best of both worlds, IMO. It can do virtually anything the larger one can do and it is a more realistic EDC size for most of us. I have two regular small Sebbies and I doubt I will ever find a more perfect knife for me. I highly recommend it.

TRANE FAN - Thanks for the reply. If you ever want to part with one of those Small Sebenzas,I will be very willing to help out.I assume the Trane Fan is regarding one of my long-time favorites,John C. Along with Miles,I know of no better music.

With respects, I'll die owning those Sebbies.:D :D ;) As to my handle, you are correct. Trane and Miles created incredible music both separately and collectively. The work the did with the Miles Davis Quintet is absolutely unmatched.

I own my small regular Sebenza since 2000. It is a wonderful knife. The size is really the relevant for EDC. The blade is small enough for not scare people (or LEO) but able to do every daily tasks. The design is very nice and pure. In addition to this quality, the small Sebenza is simply indestructible, the frame lock is a strength model and the blade thickness (which is the same as the large one) is high for this blade length category.

If you mean Self-Defence when you write Tactical, I admit I would prefer a large fixed blade for this purpose. But like
Fred PERRIN say "we don't know of anyone who likes to have it implanted in his posterior" ! :D

Have a nice day !

Hmm...
I've been carrying a large regular Sebenza as my main EDC and have been considering getting a small Classic Sebenza as well. I like the looks and feel of the small Classic Sebenza and think it would be a good alternative Chris Reeve knife to carry when I'd rather have something smaller on me. Either way, they are of such incredible high quality you couldn't go wrong with either size.

I LOVE my small Sebbie. It is by far the best folder that I own or have owned.:)
