Hey guys thinking about picking up a small sebenza and just wondering if it is tough enough for my uses. I use my knives to do everything from cut zip ties to widdling small sticks around the fire pit. I tried a para 2 and broke the tip from cutting a zip tie off of a package, can the small sebenza handle this better than a para 2 or other thin tip knife? I know not to pry and all of that but sometimes when zip ties are vary tight you can only get a small part of the tip in there to cut it and that's when she broke off. So my question is can a sm sebenza handle these duties or if not what other small folder would you reccomend? I prefer blades under 3.2 inch thanks!

Definitely, the Sm Sebenza is strong enough for anything you're going to use it for. I would especially recommend a Sm Insingo.

I wouldn't risk breaking a $300+ knife on zipties. They are tough, but I haven't heard people saying paramilitary is fragile either.

I have cut many zip ties with my small sebenza, but usually I'll just push through it since I widened and polished my bevel. Or stick tip into ziptie and just push upwards (relative to knife).

Second this. The insingo has a very strong tip, looks great, and is as well suited for EDC tasks as any blade shape I've found.

Heck ya.
Plus the grind makes it easier to cut zip ties and such. Not only is it tough enough, but you wont have to cut so hard to do it.
Insignio if you snap tips.

Awesome sounds good and does anybody know what would happen if I did break the tip on a sm sebenza? Could I buy a replacement blade from them or would they supply me one for a small fee from the warranty?

Toss a $10 Victorinox classic on the keychain, those little scissors are worth their weight in gold, and I have cut hundreds of zipties with mine. Even the large ones. If in doubt, get a standard size SAK (I recommend the compact, it's only 2 layers) just for the larger scissors. You can perform surgery with them.

With that out of the way, the Sebenza is a pretty solid knife.

Insingo gets my vote also, the knife has a lifetime warranty. If it breaks under normal use CRK will replace it for free. All you gotta do is send it in. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the CRK. There's a good reason why he builds them like he does and that's one of them

They call me Mr Zip Tie - just kidding but I do cut a lot of zip ties at work. A small Sebenza will work well. The type of blade that works best on zips is the chisel grind. I use an Emerson CQC7B which has 154cm steel. The Tanto tip seems very adept at eating though zips.

They must be the teeny-tiny zip ties if you're using the Victorinox scissors. I've had to cut some thick a** zip ties at my wife's work. Sometimes a knife just isn't a good option for really heavy duty zip ties.

You'd be surprised. 1/4" wide zipties are no problem for those tiny scissors. The shears on the 91mm SAKS will handle any plastic ziptie that doesn't have the metal bands.

I just placed an order for a small starbenza from knife art and will be looking for a small insingo on the forums cannot wait for it to arrive!:)

It will take more than a zip tie to kill a CRK (or most knives for that matter). If it roles or blunts the edge, so what? It can be sharpened out. I've opened cans with my Umnumzaan, scraped floors with it, no problems at all. They are plenty tough.

It would hard to brake a blade cutting wire ties ! That's crazy must have been a bad piece of steel in it.

I've carried CRK's for years and use them everyday, they'll handle any reasonable task you give them and I haven't wrecked one yet with all of the foolish things I've done with them. Rest assured that they're much tougher than the gentleman's knife status that most people out it into.
As far as zip tues go, I destroyed several dozen this weekend unwrapping toys for my little ladies first birthday, add lots of tough plastic, cardboard, and tape to its diet for the day and it looks as good as it did when new- minus handle scuffs :)

If the ties are too tight to get the tip into I just push cut straight through it, no damage to the edge that way. The few tines I've dulled one screwing around cutting stuff you shouldn't cut with a knife the edge came back to stupid sharp in a few swipes on a ceramic rod, some say they're too soft but I think that they're just right.

Enjoy that knife when you get it and be sure to add a Small Insingo to you collection as soon as possible.
