Small Sebenza or Umfaan

I am looking into getting a used Sebenza, but wondering which one to spring for. I really like small folders (hands are smallish and seem to carry a smaller knife more). Which knife would I get more use out of Small Sebenza or Umfaan? How much difference is there from those of you who have handled both of them?

Does the Umfaan live up to the Sebenza hype or would I be better off going with the small Sebe?

Thanks...JT

The Umfaan is solid and an engineering marvel, but a wee small knife by any standards. The small Sebenza is about as useful a 3” bladed knife you will find.

Small sebbie.

The umfaan is a cool little knife but BIG emphasis on "little". When I first saw one I was blow away by how tiny it was.

Small sebbie is just about perfect (unless you prefer the large like me:D )

Hang in there and get the Mnandi...just in between the sizes and looks to be a real nice one too!

SMALL SEBENZA
Blade length 2-7/8 inches
Handle length 4 inches
3 oz.

Umfaan
Blade length: 2.3 inches
Handle length: 3.15 inches

I think the Umfaan is just too small for a daily carry knife, and the Small Sebbie is just right if not a tad small. Both are light enough that pouch carry in your pocket is very comfortable (Big Sebbie gets heavy).

Umfaan handle is very short, not big enough to get a particularly good grip... but it is exactly a geometrically shrunken version of it's big brothers... neat knife, just really small. Seems an overkill design (solidness) for it's size.

Mnandi is indeed another great option vs. Small Sebbie. Take a hard look at both.

The small Sebenza is about the perfect size for most cutting needs.

The Umfaan is a little too small; hard to get a good grip.

I heard the Mnandi is not a one hand opener?

Go with the small; I carry mine every day. :)

Not so. It has an ambi thumb notch, very nice. Looks good and easy to use.

Rick, I have a Mnandi Prototype and #020. I don't have a problem opening the little bugger with either hand, but of course YMMV, as it does for jki. I think he has a couple to compare as well, so it really will be up to the individual.

Ditto. The thumb notch design shows a lot of thought, definitely not your typical horizontal groove.
