Hi Guys,

I just received a used small sebenza 21 Tanto. I want to sharpen the Tanto but can't find what angle it's originally sharped at?

Thanks for your help

The best way is to take a black sharpie and mark the bevel then use a fine grit and make a few passes. Check to see where the black is removed and adjust.

The tanto tip is convex, and it has a brushed finish. I have a small 21 tanto as well and have great success sharpening the front blade on a KSF firm leather strop with black compound. I don't drag the whole bevel across the strip as I like the brushed finish. Just the edge. Works great and can get hair-shaving sharp no problem.

I have used wet-dry sandpaper on a couple pieces of linen. I have never needed to go lower than 800 grit and finish on 1500 to restore the appearance it came with (which I like). Loaded stropps are fine too, but they generally will result in a polished not-so-micro bevel that is visible...and over time will turn the tip into a compound bevel. Nothing wrong with that, but if you like the way it was originally and want to maintain it, I would not use the strop much.

In summary, treat the tip like a zero grind convex with a 1500 finish.
