Small sebenza thickness question

I'd like to get a small sebenza and can't make my mind up on a regular or a black micarta version. Since I can't touch them, is there any noticable difference between the two ( I understand that the micarta is thicker due to the micarta)? Or is it just personal preference? Quess I was just hoping for some thoughts from you all who might own one of each.

My Small Sebenza 21 without inlay measures .396" thickness. Small Sebenza 21 with inlay measures .482" thickness. A difference of .086". Hope this helps. :)

The Small Sebenza is a great all around little knife that carries easily in the pocket. Inlay or Plain I think you'll like the Small Sebenza. Can't go wrong either way.

Thanks for the measurments. I sure need to find somewhere to touch the small ones or just get one of each. LOL

I have a question about thickness also. Does the small and large use the same thickness titanium? If not how thick is the titanium on the large?

Sorry for the highjack

Jobob, If you are asking how thick the whole large sebenza is? I just measured mine with my calipers and it measures .456 of an inch.

Of the two, the micarta gains a small edge for grip but its not a deal maker. I think it comes down to what you want for looks. I recently stonewashed my plain and dig the clean and utilitarian look of it. Plus my car keys can do it no harm.

In the absence of the other, the one you have in your pocket will be your favorite so don't overthink it.

Thanks. Can you measure one of the slabs of titanium? I want to know if the large has thicker titanium
Thanks

Yes, there is a noticable difference you can feel. Both feel great IMO, but you will notice it. I like the micarta on the small Classic(or 21's), and find it helps me with the grip. I have large hands and have trouble getting my pinky fully on the small Classic's and 21's. On the small Regular's you can slide your hand up a bit farther, and I have no trouble getting my pinky on fully with that frame.

Not measuring bolts my small star-benza is 10mm exactly, with titanium thickness of exactly 1/8" ea.
My large 21 is 11.55mm and titanium slab is 3.85mm or approximately 5/32" thick.

There isn't any doubt that the inlays stand up a bit, above the titanium slabs. That's perfectly normal and expected. I've had a few of each and couldn't notice any difference. I do prefer the plain jane models, but that's just me.

I think, I'll have to get a small with the micarta inlays. They sure look nice, I actually got to hold one and will defenetly get one. My large 21 in just a plain model and I like it very much.

I carried the small insingo w/out inlays for about one year, and upgraded to a small micarta insingo. I like them both a lot, but IMO, the difference is barely noticeable while using it--the micarta may be slightly grippier. I like the micarta version more because I think it looks a bit more refined, and since this will likely be my edc for the next twenty years, I didn't mind spending a bit more to have it. If you're patient, they do pop up on the exchange every now and then; I picked up both of my small micartas NIB/LNIB for $15/$50 below cost, respectively.

For those comparing the small reg. and inayd version I would recommend the inlaid. It just feels better in my hand. I have small wide hands if that makes sense.

a small sebenza insigno with micarta was my first CRK and I'm loving the thing! (just bought it here on the exchange not too long ago)

I really like the micarta inlays because it adds just enough added texture to what would otherwise be a very smooth, small surface. As someone who has a lot of G10 scaled knives, I think my big, dumb fingers would be prone to fumble it a little if the slabs were plain, smooth titanium. Now I also have since acquired a large sebenza as well and that one has the plain sides and I really like that but its plenty big enough that it doesn't need additional texture for my tastes.
