I already have a small sebenza that I've had for eight months and am looking to get a larger model. I am choosing between a large classic or 21 sebenza or going all the way and getting a umnumzaan. My small is a classic for those who are wondering. So what do you recommended I upgrade to?

IMO, you are facing a no-loose decision. While the 21 and the Umnumzaan are different animals, both are exceedingly well made with outstanding features and backed by one of the best (if not the best) customer service in the industry. You might have to try both to see which you personally like better because this choice really comes down to personal preference, not performance.

What he said.

The only thing I'd add here to supplement the posts above is that I had an Umnu and found it didn't agree with me because the lock/unlock access was significantly poorer (IMO/YMMV) than the original/classic/21 models (i.e., more like the regular).

I have both knives. I have med. size hands so I have no problem with the lock on the Umnumzaan like some guys who have large hands. The zaan is on the tactical side and is awesome. Sebbie is a everyday knife and is also awesome. I got my Zaan about a month ago and haven't EDC anything else since. If get the Zaan now that gives you time to look around for a large Classic Sebbie, be patient there around. As DallasSTB says you can't lose.

I've handled the Zaan and really dig it, but for EDC I think I would prefer the slightly simpler Sebenza 21.

In the end I'm sure you will have both. :D

I have both a large sebenza 21, and a large regular (by the way at crk getting a complete make over) I love both knives, but there is something about holding a regular that makes me like the regular slightly better. I would try to find a regular, but I am sure you will be happy with a large 21. I like the sebenzas better than the Umnumzaan only because of the difference in cleaning. I like things simple and think the sebenza is universal when it comes to fishing, camping or just every day tasks.

No question. The Spyderco Military Knifeworks exclusive in M4. Way better blade steel, hole opener, the new SS lock wear plate, titanium rear scale with G-10 front scale, full flat grind blade, SCREAMING sharp factory edge, splinter-pickin tip, sweet price for what you are getting (even taking in to consideration that people are scalping these things for 75 bucks over original selling price), strictly limited production, etc. I realize it's not a Seb but hey....

...you asked. :foot:

I'd get a large classic.
It's cool to be able to choose the size.

PS: plese let us know how you decided.

To be honest I wouldn't say go for it.

I ended up not filling my Spyderco Ti Military preorder due to some financial constraints, and after handling one decided I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. To me the Military was a large lightweight laser. The framelock variants don't appeal to me.

Pretty subjective, but I disagree with you. I prefer the feel of a Sebenza over the M4 Military. As for "way better blade steel", I'm going to differ there, as well. Maybe you like it more, but for me M4 isn't a good EDC steel because it's not stainless. All opinions, I guess.

I'll sit on the fence. I like the M4 Military ALOT. It carries great, has a great steel, great ergonomics, great quality, etc., etc...BUT

....a Sebenza is all that and a bag of chips. Best production knife on the planet.

btw, I've got one incoming now that you guys will flip over.

I also have a Large Seb21 and Zaan.
I got both around the same time. The zaan has been in my pocket everyday except for 2-3 occasions, when I dressed a little nicer and went with the Seb.

I don't like the sound the seb makes, opening or closing. It's harder to open than the zaan. and it feels flimsier.
That being said, it is still 10x better than most other knives i've ever handled.

Each of those are great knives, though I prefer the Umnumzaan :)

Like others have said you can't lose!
