I'm thinking about buying a small sebenza and I wanted some honest advice on whether they are worth it or not.

Also is the grip better on the modern or classic?

I have alot of other knives but I keep hearing that sebbies are the best and I really want one.

I would really appreciate some advice...

Completely subjective.

I could tell you I like mine, I could tell you about the superb fit and finish, I could tell you about their strength and versatility.

Somebody else will tell you how they bought one, didn't like it for any number of reasons and then sold it.

Who is telling the truth?

Both of us, not all knives suit all people, that's why there are so many different ones.

If you can, try and get hold of one, in a shop or wherever. See what you think of it, play with it for a bit. Either it will grab you or it won't.

If you can't do that and you really want one, go ahead and buy it, if you don't like it you will have no problems selling it again here on BF.

While I have seen people write about how the knife didn't suit them for different reasons, I've rarely heard anyone complain about the quality.

I think that the Small Sebenza is one of the finest knives made in that price range. I purchased the classic w/micarta inlays. The micarta aids in the grip IMO. You will not be sorry.

I'd really like one. They're really, really nice and all, but I could never justify the price tag =\

If I got one for free or heavily discounted, I'd be very, very happy :)

The Sebenzas are amoung the finest made folders including factory and custom.Since CRK has no trouble selling them they must be doing something right.I personally like the classic over the regular.Others like the regular but this will be discontinued soon.If your not able to handle one personally you can always purchase one and if you do'nt like you can sell it at a very small loss. Most folders won't hold their value as much as a Sebbie.

Just my opinion but I don't think they are worth it. I bought a small normal Sebenza and tried it out for a couple days and it's nice but I honestly prefer my Griptilian. Much easier to open/close and the lockup feels great. Maybe not as good as the Sebenza but it's not $250 worse.

He said it perfectly. I think that the Sebenza IS THE BEST production knife made, bar none. Actually, the Sebenza IS in a class by itself. You have production, Sebenza's, then customs. I LOVE my small Sebbies. They make for an EXCELLENT EDC, for ME. YMMV.

Do check out the Chris Reeves sub-forum under manufacturers.

Sebenza is a nice knife , but in a class by itself ? Not hardly. Sorry TKC but I gotta disagree on that one.

I have had a total of 8 Sebs over the years. Sold em all. Got another large reg Seb this week , I can honestly say , it's a knife that just doesn't do anything for me any longer. Guess I remember now why I sold all the others. Ergo's just aint there for me.

For the money , I would go with the BM630 or 635 since you are looking at the small Seb.
Went to a knife/gun show today , looking to trade the large reg in on a small , handled the small , still nothing. I will stick with my PT CC , to me it is a much better ergo using knife.

I think the regular models are the most grip versatile of any pocket knife i have had. The scallops give massive grip too. It's usually 50/50 on which model is better, I just happen to think the regular is a slightly more utilitarian design. They both happen to be amazing however.

I love my small Sebbie. Perfect combination of ergonomics, weight and cutting ability. I find that I carry mine most everyday now.

+1
Impeccable quality, but the ergonomics didn't suit me, and I much prefer an Axis lock mechanism. I consider Sebenzas to be almost like Rolex watches. A quartz watch suits most people just fine, but some people demand the exclusive Swiss mechanical timepiece. To each his own. I don't carry a knife to impress anyone.

In the small Sebbies I think the regular is a better fit in the hand, the indent for the thumb stud make the classic very thin near the front for your fore finger. The regular has more grip and is not as thin. I own the classic w/micarta inlays in both big and small and I have a small regular that almost never leaves my pocket. They are all fantastic knives.

If you're really not sure wait and but one on the used individual production for sale sub forum. If you decude you don't like it, you can sell it for the same price you bought it for. No risk.

And yes, they are worth it.

They are worth it. You want one. You NEED one.

Oh, and they are very nice!

For years I have thought "Sebenza, yeah right". But now that I have two (large & small) I want more...

Kind regards,

Jos

I have owned a lot of folding knives from all the big names. IMHO Sebenzas are the closest to perfection you can get. Perfect balance, light weight, amazing blade, tight lock up, and I think they easily have the best pocket clip.

Every answer on this topic will be very subjective. I own several, and would like to go back and spend the money on something else. I don't know why a lot of people are willing to spend more on folders than fixed blades, but a Graham Brothers Razel or a good Dozier or Krein will do everything a Sebbie will do, or more, and won't be much bigger than an opened small seb, but at a savings of at least a Franklin.

Sebbies were the best thing going in the mid-1990's, but a lot of new products have hit the market since then, and at a better entry level price point, IMHO. Plus R&D at CRK seems to have petered out (again a very subjective IMO) judging by the new Umnum. Finally, Scott Cook makes a better "Sebbie" (Lochsa) than CRK these days anyway, if you really feel the need for speed.

Buy a small micarta inlay and then save up and buy the large micarta inlay. Then you will have most of the bases covered.;):p

I have the same knife and wouldn't trade it for the world. It was rough parting with that kind of cash for it but I haven't regretted it once.
