Im a Chris Reeve newbie looking to get my first sebenza. I can't find a single store online with them in stock. Am I missing something? Im looking for a small plain right handed sebenza.

Try Nordic knives I have been very happy with the purchase I have made through them.

I think knifeart might have had some. I just ordered a small Insingo yesterday. It was a non Idaho made that they had not listed.

Not sure where you're looking, but they're in stock most every place that sells them:

New Graham has them (they have a bunch).

So does Only Fine Knives (they have a ton).

So does Peas And Corn Co. (good selection).

And, as mentioned above, Plaza Cutlery, Knife Art, Knives Ship Free . . . and I could go on. They also show up on the BF Sales forum -- you might want to consider a pre-loved Seb for your first excursion into CRK's.

Try New Graham Pharmacy. I don't like the small Sebs at all. (In my opinion, CRK just scaled everything down on a CAD program and "went with it" when they came up with the small). At the size level, nothing works for me (ergonomics wise). It's like they took one of those tracing mechanisms found at tatoo parlors and dialed it in for 60% size and just rushed the finished product to the printing department without field testing it. The large Seb is perfect, the small is... Well... Not perfect. This of course is only my opinion. :)

Having said that, I'm a regular walk-in customer at New Graham Pharmacy and they have an OVERGROWN selection of these profane things in the showcase. Probably two smalls for every "real" Sebenza at any given time. If you're looking for a small, you've hit the mother lode. New Graham is excellent to deal with, by the way. Check out their flawless feedback around here. Highly recommended.

You're a lucky man to live so near to NGK. Mike and the guys & gals there are great! I have given them much of my money over the past 6 years, and I have always been very pleased with their products and service.

As far as the large vs. small thing goes, I agree that the large is "perfect" in the hand. They also tend to have smoother action than the smalls. But for EDC purposes, I typically don't need that much blade, so I tend to carry a small. I started with smalls (courtesy of NGK), and I just became accustomed to them I suppose. I reserve my larges for out-of-doors and into-the-woods type adventures where a larger blade is more appreciated.

Bottom line is that OP should get both a large and a small, and he can decide for himself which works best for his needs.

No really, what do you think? Hard to tell from your post. Seems a little wishy-washy if you ask me.

Harry, you describe the creation of the small sebenza almost perfectly. It is a scaled down version of the large (more like 82%, not 60%) in almost all aspects except blade thickness. Working in dress slacks though, I'll disagree as to the usefullness of the small. As much as I love the large, small Seb's carry better in and around office environments. Whip out a large Sebenza to open a ream of copy paper and it WILL get noticed.

And it's a good thing I live no where near a store like NGP. I'd be broke, probably divorced, and living under a bridge playing with a boatload of knives. my precious.

Actually, none of those places have the small plain sebenza in stock, except for Plaza Cultery, which has 1 (it has the idaho stamp). I know because I was on the same search just days ago and called, visited websites and emailed almost every authorized dealer. Rainierarms.com also has one (no idaho stamp) and so does soonerstateknives.com (not sure if it has the idaho stamp). Those would be your best bets. Like link2derek said, they show up on the sales forum quite often (although not for that much cheaper), so you can try checking those every day (...or every 15 minutes like I ended up doing...).

Sleepy122 is absolutely correct, no small plain sebenzas anywhere. I was thinking about getting back into a Small 21 but the lack of availability is turning me off. Anyone know what the deal is?

I would guess that what you're seeing is a combination of batch production and customer demand. Knives are made in batches, and there may have been an upswing in demand recently, cleaning out dealer inventory of the basic models.

Maybe it has to do with the transition to S35VN steel?

You can go to www.chrisreeve.com and find the dealer link there at http://www.chrisreeve.com/dealers.htm which may help.

For all those who have been helping, much of what you're posting is what we call Auction / Deal / Bargain Spotting
This is a variation of the "no spam" rules that we have. We know you found a great deal on a Ninja Death Tool 3000 - we don't care.

If that dealer wants to advertise on BladeForums.com, encourage them to purchase a Dealer membership here instead of giving them free advertising.

This infraction can be issued as a warning and is worth 10 points towards your total. It expires in 12 months.

We don't mind links to our paid dealers like New Graham and I'm willing to overlook links to CRK approved dealers while we are on the CRK forum, but be careful about posting others.

We do police this issue because our paid dealers are a mainstay in keeping Bladeforums open. Undercutting them ultimately hurts all of us.

I gave up. I got frustrated after about 2 weeks of not having any luck. I ordered up a folder from three sisters forge instead.
