I jsut got a Navigator, actually an experimental #2, same thing though. It's a great little knife and I have been carrying it everyday since I got it.

I have a friend who is getting married soon and they always take a liking to my new knives I get from time to time. I told them I would get each of them a knife for their wedding and was considering a pair of Natives. When I showed them the Navigator, they were elated!! They both loved it and made subtle hints that that's what they wanted.

Now my question. How does the Dragonfly stack up against the Navigator? No Pegasuses, neither care for it.

I like my Navigator so much I am planning to put up my CF Dragonfly (plain edge) for sale. That's me, I am sure others will differ.

Well, my all time favorite small Spyderco is the mini Dyad. Has two blades for all needs that come about and the clip can be removed if a pocket knife is what you want.

Ive got a bunch of Spyderco's and this is probably the most carried of any.

I have carbon fiber Dragonfly and I think it compares quite well to the Navigator. It also has a slightly longer blade and is flat ground. If your friend really like the navigator, a zytel Dragonfly might seem a bit cheap. Look at a Navigator or Co-pilot. You might also want to see Smoky mountain knifeworks still has that special on carbon fiber Ladybugs. I got one from them for $29.95.

I really like the dragonfly, as much as the navigator. Let me make a suggestion though. If possible get the stainless dragonfly or almite navigator and have something engraved on it. Either a design, or their names and wedding date, you get the idea. Very classy gift.

Shootist16, nice idea, but these will be users and daily carries, so the extra weight of the stainless dragonfly wouldn't do too well. Coincidentally, anyone know the weight of the stainless dragonfly?

I was thinking of small and tasteful engraving on the spine of the blade, not gaudy and unlikely to get screwed up.

what I carry the most is the Mini Dyad.
It can do most of the jobs and small
enough that won't scare people in my office.

The Cricket is my all around favorite. It got lost and I temporarily replaced it with a Dragonfly. I like the Dragonfly so much now, I'm reluctant to go buy another Cricket.
I use the small folders exclusively on my job as anything with a longer than 2" blade is verbotten on my job. Now that I'm thinking about it, I wish I had my Cricket back, too.
No kidding, they are both great small folders as are all of Spyderco's small folders. Happy Hunting!

leroys_45,

According to the Spyderco catalog, the SS Dragonfly weighs in at 2.25 oz (63g). That's only .25 oz more than the Navigator, which is listed at 2 oz (56g).

I own both a CF Dragonfly and a G10 Navigator. Both are fine knives -- the Dragonfly is classier, but the Navigator is more functional. Like the CF Dragonfly, the SS Dragonfly's blade is ATS-55, while the Navigator uses Gin-1; slight edge (no pun intended) to the Dragonfly.

It's a tough choice, but I think I would go with the SS Dragonfly as a gift. Of course, if you could find a couple of CF Crickets . . .

My Cricket has been carried daily in my fanny pack since I bought it. It's a great little cutter, and for such a short blade, it sure mimics a larger blade! (so does the Dragonfly, for that matter).

Today I handled a Mini-dyad Jr., with Zytel scales and no pocket clip. It's basically a high-tech Spydie version of a traditional pocketknife. I WILL wind down on my knife purchases...really!

Hey, you guys were supposed to make this easier!! Now you suggest the Cricket and the Dyad Jr. and .... Now that I see those weight figures, the SS Dragonfly might do quite nicely. Decisions, decisions...

I would recommend the G10 Navigator for personal use but the Stainless Steel Dragonfly for gift giving. Why? The SS Dragonfly is the best looking little Spyderco and it is less expensive than the Navigator.

I have to agree that the stainless Dragonfly is the classiest and best looking Spyderco knife.
However, the ergos of the Navigator are superior.
You just can't get the grip of the Navigator with the Dragonfly.
For a casual user, the Dragonfly is fine.
When you are doing serious work, the Navigator is better.

I agree that the navigator may be slightly better for serious use, but if I want a knife for serious use it will be a Military

I think for a gift, especially one for such a special occasion, the dragonfly is the way to go.

How about something like this?
