I've been doing a little pre-season Christmas shopping. Lookin' to purchase a few small folders for myself and gifts. Looked at Spyderco's recent line up of folders with short (2" length) blades. Quite an assortment they have. I am considering the following and would welcome any recommendations:

Salsa
Jester
Cricket
Others??

Thanks.

Smokey Mountain Knife Works (eknifeworks.com) has the Almite Navigator plain edge in VG-10 steel for around $35 shipped. This is a great little knife, attractive and friendly-looking.

Its only real flaw is a sharp corner on the top of the Spyder-hole hump that tends to scrape the back of your hand when you put it in your pocket. This will need to be gently smoothed. Pahl posted photos and comments on how to do this here:

My SS Dragonfly's blade is 1 7/8". Great ergonomics, nice blade, slim and unobtrusive in my back pocket.

Of all the small Spyderco folders my fave has to be the FRN Dragonfly. Good handle ergonomics for such a small knife. Blade is wide and tough enough to handle some bigger cutting tasks.

Perfect IWB knife.

If you decide to go with a lower-priced model, the Jester is real useful. If you want to spend a bit more, the Navigator is a great knife. In threads on this topic, a lot of people also recommend the Dragonfly - so often that it's got me thinking about getting one in the future. Just wish it was available with a G10 handle.

Here's another vote for the navigator. Mine just arrived the other day. Fits the hand well and was SHARP out of the box. No complaints at all.

Cast my vote for the SS Dragonfly by Spyderco.

Mine isn't serrated though.

don't have navigator.. but I like my dragonfly. and I have jester it's too small for my taste.

Spyderco Crickets! As little knives go they are by far my favourites. Small and easy to carry but with great edges. They have a very interesting feel because of their shape. I have three: plain edge, fully serrated and an original Aluminium/Tufram version.

Wouldnt be without them, thats my recommendation anyway :D or you could always get them all... ;)

Its blade is 2" of 440C steel and it has FRN scales, but of an interestingly sculptured form more often seen on G-10. I really like it a lot. 1SKS has it for $34.99.

BTW, the Salsa, a very nice knife, and one that I have in my EDC rotation, has a 2 7/16" blade. I cite that just in case the 2" length is important to you.

try a Kiwi. IMHO, the very best small factory knife on the market, bar none.

It is the only sub 2 inch folder that I can actually open with one hand and not cramp up, and then actually close without cramping up.
