Small Spydie's one hand opening?

I recently fractured my wrist in a soccer game, and have to wear a fairly constrictive cast for bout 8 weeks. :grumpy:

I've always been a SAK guy for a long time, I've never needed OHO knife until now. I can NOT use a blade much bigger then a Vic where I live and work.

So, my questions, do the smallest spydie knives (such as a ladybug) one hand opening work? I don't have chubby fingers, or anything, mine are kinda smaller the average.

Not too well for me with the ladybug, (but I do have larger hands.) However if you have your keys on it you can hold it by the hole in the blade and fling the keys around to open it with one hand, if you are willing to go a little larger the Dragonfly is very workable with one hand or the key opening method just explaned.

Blue Almite Walker. It's a liner lock knife. It is easily opened and closed one handed.

Kopa is a lockback and is also easy to open but closing requires 2 hands, using your leg, or flipping the knife over.

Ladybug and Jester are too small for me to open with one hand easily
Dragonfly and Navigator II are good choices

The Jester is easier to open one-handed than the Ladybug (larger hole), but I haven't had much trouble with either. They just take a bit of practice to find the right hand position.

I still haven't found an easy way to open the ladybug one handed. I also have large hands/fingers. So the ladybug resides in a drawer. I have a delica III on the way to replace it.

I have decent sized hands and have little trouble opening the cricket one-handed. It's not as easy as my native or as loose as a CCC but it definately works for me.

Hoep you heal fast.

ok!

if you place your ring-finger and pinkie on the other side of the knife(the relative frontside) so the backs of those fingers are against the handle(i use the 2nd segment of the finger), it makes it alot easier.

or just the pinkie will do too.

I don't know first hand about the Starling and Finch - they look a little bit bigger than the Ladybug, though. I have a Byrd Crow, and it has a pretty small blade (leaf shaped), so it is mostly people friendly (maybe similar in size to the Dragonfly?). It is super easy to open, easier than my Delica, and easier to close (being liner locking). A great little one handed EDCer. That said, I prefer, however, to carry either my Delica or FRN Meadowlark every day. SAK OH Trekker too big?

Get ya a small Spyderco and if it doesn't open as well as you had hoped send it to me and I'll Wave mod it for you at N/C.

I've done some of the old Pro Grips for some folks that work super.

Get a Delica or a Dragonfly. One handed opening works fine on just about any Spyderco knife. Keep in mind, though, that the Spyderhole is not designed to "flick" open like a Benchmade with a thumbstud, but to be "thumbed" all the way open. Granted, depending on the tightness of the pivot and the length/weight of the blade, some Spydies are easily "flicked" as well (my Military, Delica, discontinued Flat Iron Folder, and Police all flick open without a problem, just as fast as a thumbstud folder).

Hope your wrist heals up quick!

I have pretty big hands and I love the Kiwi, although the ss model is s little slick for me. Have you seen the UKPK?

I picked up a Finch at my local hunting store. I also got a green Jester that was on display for $12. Great deal IMO.

I prefer the Finch, I love the byrd-line hole, I find pretty easy to open one handed. I'm giving my Jester to my mom, who has pretty small hands as well.

Thanks for all the advice, guys.

You can also do a Spydie drop; works well with most small lockback Spydies, I know it works with a Delica just fine.

Did ya break your scaphoid? I broke that bone and had surgury on it getting a Ti pin in there and had a cast on for just about 12 weeks :(

IF you can find one - the discontinued Co-pilot might do well - it's a bit smaller than the "Navigator" but easy to open and can double as a money clip if the sheeple are scary around blades.

i have a ladybug and i put a ziptie on the hole. works as a waving method sorta, but its main benifit to me is how much easier it is to open, acting like a thumbstud.

My Cara Cara opens really really well one handed...I would get a mid-sized Byrd...
