I've never had a Benchmade, but my wife wants me to buy a new knife for my 40th birthday. I'm looking at the small summit lake as a nice, small gentleman's edc. I've never owned a knife this expensive, so this seems like a big investment for me. Does anyone have any feedback about this knife? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I own it's predecessor from the bone collector lineup. It's a nice gentlemans knife. It has classic lines with a good steel and will be a quality folder for years to come. I don't think you'll regret it.

Looks like it would be a great choice for a first Benchmade. I like my Mini Grip a lot too, but it's not exactly a gentlemans folder, and has lesser (YMMV) steel. You'll learn to love that little butterfly

I own a Grizzly Creek (part of the same series of knives). S30V is great steel, holds a edge longer than normal stainless. The Dymonwood is easily mistaken for real wood visually.
I can't say much for that particular knife (especially since they have two very different locking mechanisms) but Benchmade has impeccable fit and finish. For whatever reason somethings wrong they'll fix it.

BTW if I'm not mistaken you can find some from the first production run on ebay from reputable sellers around $110-130. Its something that I keep on coming back to as a xmas present for my old man but he is far from a knife person so it might be a expensive gift wasted when he'll throw it in a bin in the basement
