Sup guys. so today i bought a small sebenza insingo from a friend. the knife's birthday is april 2011 so its pretty new. he EDC'd it quite a bit but it was real smooth and just a little dusty all around. so i got home and decided to take it apart and clean it. I relubed it with a non abraisive lubricant that is for paintball guns but I've used it on all my knives and it works great. it is NOT oil. so i get it back together, and the blade opens scratchy when it is rotating with the frame lock pressing next to it. once its past the frame lock, its smooth. WHY IS IT GRITTY OPENING!!? It is clean for sure, there is no dust or dirt in it and both washers are lubricated. it was smooth before i took it apart to clean it. Spare me the "wow, you killed your first sebenza the day you got it," remarks, i know i effed up and i really need help. I love this thing and i want it working properly. Thanks

thanks alot guys, i assembled it the correct way so ill just have to wait on getting around to buying the oil.

Assembled correctly the first time or have you disassembled it, cleaned it out completely and reassembled it?

If not, I'd take it apart and simply use a decent lube oil (light coating) and reassemble it. It should work just fine until your CRK grease arrives.

Another thought - is there any chance that you got a washer/washers flipped over? That would start a break in process again. Good luck! :)

this is from the detent ball interface with the detent "track" on the blade.. clean that area well ad a touch of lube to the detent ball and give that a try.

Try just taking a q-tip and cleaning off the ceramic ball on the lockbar. Sometimes a bit of grit will stick to it and cause a rough feeling while opening.

You might even try cleaning the detent on the blade too, there could be grit in there which is getting on the ceramic ball.

People are probably gonna hate me for saying this...

But for me this is a typical example of : If it ain't broken don't fix it!

It was working smoothly before you took it apart...

Kind regards,

Jos

But does that include "if it aint broken, dont CLEAN it"? And yea i believe i mentioned i was just looking for help and not to be pointed out. Yes i am aware i made a mistake thats why i asked for help. Thanks to the other dudes who read my entire post and helped me out and spared me the ball-busting.

I would recommend ordering the CRK grease. In the mean time go to home depot or lowes and get a can of dupont teflon grease, that will work just fine too. I used the dupont grease for a while and the opening and closing action was buttery smooth, but when I switched over to the CRK grease it went from buttery smooth to WHOA! :D Good luck

Nah but im gonna go out today hopefully and get teflon grease. Ill probably order CRK oil down the road when i order a screw for the pocket clip, need one of those. Thanks alot guys im excited to get this thing going!

ITS PERFECT! used some '3-in-one' oil thats about 20 years old, my dad had it lying around in his shop. SMOOTH BABY! thanks for the help guys im gonna order some crk oil in the future for sure.

You need to realize that paintball gun lube is designed to prevent wear on the marker's O-rings, not metal. In other words, it's likely not the best choice for protecting metal on metal or ceramic on metal contact, which is what you have in your knife. Just because a lube works good in one device doesn't necessarily mean it's suitable for other types of devices.

Once I had bottle of pure clear silicone oil that I think came with a treadmill that I bought. It was about 30 or 40 weight in viscosity. I thought wow what a great knife oil this would make. Wrong! I used it on what ever I was carrying at that time and the knife went from decently smooth to total crap! The action became so sticky and rough that I had to disassemble the knife and remove all of the silicone oil that I had put in it. Wrong lube for the job.

yea the only reason i tried it was because it worked with my other knives as well. And this paintball lubricant was not for the o rings but for the bolt itself. so it was used for metal on metal. I worked in a paintball shop so I'm aware of what its meant for, haha. but thanks for the heads up

Ya probably had a little grit get in there or possibly, but not probably, a washer pinch. Good news is you cleaned it out again & fixed it - like buttah now!! :D
