Good idea or great idea? :D Why or why not?
I love my small sebbie so I think a smaller 'zaan would be great, what do you guys think?

Meh, I dont think its needed... However I would like to see the Umnumzaan being customizable on their website, kind of like the Sebenza and Mnandi is. I'd also like to see the Umfaan come back.

An Umnumzaan sized between small and large Sebenzas I bet would sell well, given that people want a smaller Umnumzaan and others want a CRK between the small and large Sebs. I would be all over one of those :D

Perfect Umnumzaan for me would be a slightly smaller frame (not as small as the s-sebenza) and a beefy 3" blade without the harpoon tip but rather like the regular sebenza.

a 3 1/4" blade would be awesome. That's partly why I got excited about the Ti Lock. But I'd love to see either a Sebenza or Umnumzaan in that size.

If CR does a small Umnumzaan, then I agree it should have a blade about 3 1/4". HOWEVER, I don't see him doing it now with the Ti-lock out there at around this blade length. In all reality, CR will probably keep the 'zaan as the big, tough guy in this well-mannered family.

A little bit bigger than the Small Sebenza would definitely warrant a purchase from me. I like the Umnumzaan but I wouldn't carry it often enough. I prefer knives sized like the Sm. Seb for EDC.

I think I have been probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest proponents of a Small Umnumzaan. I have literally been waiting on a Small Umnumzaan since the day the Umnumzaan was announced at Blade in 2008. I just can't wait to get my hands on one.

I think it would truly be the ultimate folder for me because I only carry smaller knives. Bigger knives just don't feel as comfortable for me. I bought an Umnumzaan that I will never carry just because I am fascinated by the design of the knife. I am just amazed at the overall engineering of the knife with the two sole points of attachment, the single thumbstud that functions as the blade stop when open and closed, the ceramic ball that serves double duty, etc.

I think we'll see one eventually, and I have a very good reason why I think so. In the 2/16/09 Woodsmonkey interview, when asked about the possibility of embellishments being offered on the Umnumzaan in the future, at 41:05 into the interview Chris Reeve himself says that instead of next offering embellishment options for the Umnumzaan, "the next step is to make a slightly smaller Umnumzaan." He goes on to say that he understands the strong demand for a smaller Umnumzaan, and that he needs to make and sell Umnumzaans for a while to pay the tooling off before he can afford to make the investment to produce another new knife.

Let me also add--as I have said here befire, I think it's pretty clear that Chris/CRK would deny the existence of a Small Umumzaan until the day it's released. So I dont think the fact that anecdotally Chris has constantly denied that it will be released tells us much. CRK has a long history of denying anything and everything until they are ready to release it on their terms with their own announcement. You're not going to get a "scoop" on a new product by calling CRK or talking to Chris or anyone else at a knife show. That's just not how they operate.

Well see how the Ti Lock does for CRK. If the sales are down then maybe
they will want to focus their attention on a new project. As it is now I think
all their time and effort have been on releasing the tilock and satisfying
demand for all the sebbies and umnums.

I think they would have better sales re-releasing the Umfaan

I think they would have better sales at first re-releasing the Umfaan, but after the hype dies down I don't think it would be as big of a seller as a Small Umnumzaan in the long run because not many people like to carry that small of a knife. Just my 2 cents.

Lots of good info. I agree that an "in between" size would be awesome. My small sebbie is a little small, but the full size 'zaan isn't as subtle as I would like. I would definetly buy a smaller one though
