Small vs. Large

I ordered a small Sebenza and it arrived today. I am thrilled with the quality of the product, but I'm not overjoyed with the size. I find it to be too small, not tiny by any means, but not ideal. Unfortunately there are no dealers near me so I have to do all my shopping online. I'm curious about the Large size. I have average sized hands and like the said the small is only a bit too small, so would the large most likely be too big?

I wish they made a medium, I think that would be perfect for me.

The large is not big at all, it is the perfect size IMO (for me). However, sometimes it is just better to carry a small, as it is a lot lighter and can perform all the jobs a large can unless you do a lot of field work.

Get both and be satisfied.

I have both Small and Large Sebenzas, and I rather the Large. I do not have monster hands or even large hands I just like the longer blade length. I will freely admit that I do not need the extra blade length, I just like having it (I am also a big fan of the Umnumzaan).

I did find this posted by SoLo on youtube:

It should give you an idea of the size compared to some more accessible knives.

Hope it helps.

Well, I carried/used a small Seb for quite a while before getting a lg. Seb. Once I had the lg. Seb, I didn't carry/use the small much at all. Of course, then I got an Umnum & that was it even for the lg.

The lg. Seb & Umnum are 3/4" longer & just about 1/4" wider in the pocket (Blade spine to other side of handle). I believe they're also less than 2 oz. heavier. The small Seb just about disappears in your pocket. It's fairly light & narrow. However, for its size, the lg. Seb carries very well.

If the small Seb's too small, then I wouldn't say the lg. is too big, then. While I can't honestly say I "need" the larger blade, it sure comes in handy.

To me, it's not the blade size, I don't have the need for a huge blade, but I wish the handle was a bit longer. It would be more comfortable, I think.

The large Seb is not exactly a big knife, I would call it more just on the large side of medium.

I find the small is great for just throwing in the pocket when all you need is a small knife.
The large(r) Seb and the Umnum. are indeed big enough to be of use in a good range of
tasks but neither are by any means silly big.

I own both, but I'm no help. I like the blade size of the small, but I too wish the handle was a bit longer. That being said, the large feels great to me. I think more maufactures should make a knife like the Emerson snubby. Nice big handle on a smaller blade.

my large sebenze seems pretty small. that's mostly because these knives are so darn compact when folded. it's thinner than any other folder i have including slip joints. it's also very narrow and it sits unobtrusively against the back seam of the front pocket. no, i don't need a 3.6" blade, but the added handle length is very appreciated.

Timmy,
I think if you had gotten the large you wouldn't be posting. I have had both sizes for quite a while and carry the large a lot more often, which actually feels more like a 'medium.' I would have been surprised to hear me say this sometime back, but the small is more like a gentlemen's knife, although it cuts larger than it looks!

I was on the fence with this one too. I watched the YouTube videos on both knives and decide to go for the small Seb first for the primary purpose of carrying it in dress slacks. I wanted to be able to comfortably carry the knife I bought as well as not alarm my office bound co-workers when I pull it out. For non-office use, I would prefer a Large. But the small is almost a perfect size for casual or business clothes carry.

Next will be a large

carry your small for a while. you'll soon find it to be your favorite knife. for a size comparison if you own a spyderco endura that's about the size of a lg seb just not as heavy.

if you bought the small, then..yes, I feel the small sebbie is too small and not ergonomic compared to say a Delica or calypso with a similar 3inch blade. I like the large regular sebbie myself.

Well I have 6 large & 1 small, I carry both plus a Unandi in my shirt pocket.
But not having to go to a job everyday I can get away with that.
Once you get one you have to get the other.
If I could only have one it would have to be a LARGE.

I agree that the Small is a little small and the Large is a little large. I think that was the intent. The Small is diminutive, but still practical. The Large is more substantial, but not threatening.

I was able to check out both the large and small Sebenza before I bought mine. I got a large and to be honest it doesn't even feel like a large-sized knife, at least not compared to my previous EDC, a Spyderco Military. Like the others here have already said, it's more of a medium than a large.

I just got my large today. First of all let me say that I love the size but secondly and in my opinion it was larger than what I expected. Maybe I was expecting a medium but there is a big difference between a large vs small sebbie.

At the end of the day, you need both :-)

Love these knives.
