Does anyone know a source for small waterstones (1"x4"). I am looking for grits other than 1000, and 4000. Natural would be very nice, but man made are ok as well.

This size of waterstone does not seem to be readily available. I would suggest cutting down a larger stone to the required size. You could either do this yourself or have a lapidary do the job.

Thanks, Lee Valley doesn't have the grits I want, nor does Tool for Woodworking. I certainly spazzed on Ben Dale considering I owned an Apex. I just fired off an email as to the availability of the stones on their own.

Ben does sell the stones unmounted, so he is a source of small waterstones in various grits. I also chopped a chunk off of my large x-coarse SiC waterstone. It was really easy actually, I used a worn wood saw. It goes much faster if the stone is soaked, more than 2:1 . It will also taken a few mm of steel off the teeth of the saw. I am still looking for small natural Japanese waterstones if anyone come upon a source.
