Hello all! I have a bearing going bad in a small wheel and need to get a replacement. Problem is, I really don't know where to start.

What outlets would supply these...knife maker suppliers, McMaster-Carr, others?

Is there a fairly standard size or do I need to take some measurements?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Umm,.... a little more info would help. Grinder make and model, wheel size, shaft bolt size, etc.

There are many suppliers. KMG sells them, Oregon Blademaker, McMaster-Carr, and most any industrial supply like Grainger.

Knock the bearing out, take it to Motion Bearing (or other bearing supply house in your area) and they'll provide you with the correct bearing. OR - enter the bearing part number in search engine and many places will pop up.

Bring it in to any half decent independent industrial supplier (service is always far better than Grainger unless you've got a massive account) and they can find a bearing that fits.

If you look at the side of the bearing, usually on the seal, you mit find the bearing number. You may have to use a magnifing glass to read it. My KMG uses bearings marked R6RS, since they have a rubber seal on both sides, I believe technically they are R6R2S. if you search ebay, you can probably buy a dozen for what you would pay for two if bought locally.

Vbx.com sells bearings dirt cheap. Their website is a pain to navigate but worth the money. If you have a band saw you mit think about buying a spare set of bearings at the same time.
Happy hunting.
