For those of you with small wheel attachments for their grinders I would like to know what are the sizes you use most. If you were limited to two small wheels what size would they be? Thanks, Darrin.

The two I use most are 1" and 9/16". The really small ones are handy for getting in tight curves.

All three of these are important and I'd hate to lose any of them... but this list represents how much I use them (from most used to least used).
  1. 1-1/4"
  2. 3/4" (could actually be a tie for first)
  3. 1/2"

Hey Darrin,

I have a 7/8'' that I use. It might be me, but they seem to wear the belt out quicker because of the tighter radius.

It is the same setup that Dan had on his grinder.

Take care.

Robert

I am also looking at a small wheel setup - not sure whether 2" wheels count as especially small, and I would be interested in knowing whether people that size as well...

The Bee grinder already comes with a 1.62" and 2" full contact wheel rollers on the multi-platen, so my small wheel attachment has a 1" and a 0.5".

Rob!

I don't do a lot of fixed blades anymore so 1/2" or close, even if I did though I would think getting under a guard the smaller the better unless you match the radius to the guard.
Ken.

I only have a 1", and it seems to be all I need for now. I'd actually like a 1/4 wheel for doing traction grooves. (Not sure if anyone actually makes one this small.)

If I could have just 2 it would be 3/4" and 1/2".
Stan

I'm with Stan, 3/4 and 1/2 are really important in my limited experience. There are times though, when I think a larger wheel would be better, like when I get minor divots in my profile from letting the 1/2" wheel sit for a split second too long in one spot. Granted, being more careful and using smoother movements could prevent that, but a larger wheel could help prevent it as well. If I could only have two though, it would be these two. Larger curves can be done either on the edge of the flat platen or on the upper or lower contact wheel if need be.

The small ones like the 1/2 inch are nice for finger grooves, and the 2 inch for shaping handles. These small wheels work best on variable speed grinders. I have never used one on a regular single speed, but they would likely run far too fast. Not too sure how long the bearings would last at that high speed?
