Small world. VDG knives

For those of you who aren't familiar with VDG, or Flying Dutchman Knives (Kirby Van De Griek), he's a good friend of mine who was a full time maker from 1989 to about 1997. A motorcycle accident in 97 resulted in major reconstructive surgery of his hammer-wielding hand, and he ceased making knives in order to recover. I had an interesting shock one Sunday morning while scouring Ebay...One of Kirby's knives that I'd never seen. Here it is:

Turns out that it is one of his pieces from his first year as a knifemaker. Sold to a stranger in South Carolina in 1989, floating around the world to Arkansas and sold on Ebay only to end up in the hands of a good friend. It just goes to show that the world is small.
