Smaller code 4?

In my not so humble opinion 3" is an ideal blade length. I would like to see the code 4 knives in 3" versions. Anyone else interested?

I've been touting that for the past year. Though with the aluminum handles, a shorter package might be more difficult to grasp on, so I think they should make one side G-10 akin to what ZT does and call it the "Code 4 Elite", and also offer it in a mini. Metal on the clip side, G-10 on the grip side. So it slides out of the pocket just as smoothly, while having your thumb grasp the handle better on the way out. Its such a fantastic design that you can do so much with. It has potential to be the closest thing to a perfect knife as you can get.

That's a great idea! I want one. Hopefully this will happen

I usually care more for the overall length than the blade length, and i would prefer a Code 4 that's somewhere in between 7.5 to 8 inches overall.

The only CS that I want to try is the Code 4 but I just can't buy one without g10 or something with traction. I just don't see building all of that lock strength into a knife otherwise.

I actually like the Code 4's aluminum handles. It's one of the appeals to me. It doesn't tear up the pockets like CS's G10, and is nice and flat/slim in the pocket.

I would like to see a Code 4 with a 3" blade. Its handle would still be very substantial in the hand. And it would probably be easier to open smoothly with my medium-sized hands. Once open, the Code 4 is very secure in hand due to its ergonomics. IMO, a 3"-bladed Code 4 would be an ideal size/dimension for EDC.

The optimum upgrade is to modify the aluminum handles to include rubber traction inserts similar to the Kershaw Blur.

With this change, increase the handle thickness by 1mm (even stronger)

Make in 3, 3.5, and 4" blade lengths.

Rename them the C4 (C4-30, C4-35, C4-40)

I've wanted this ever since the Code 4 came out. Every year in January, I wait to see if I'm going to get a mini Code 4 and every year, I'm disappointed.

Its probably because the Code 4 is already under 4 inches. My thoughts for a mini have evolved into the Code 4 Elite. A code 4 with G-10 on one side, namely the one that your thumb grasps while you extract if from your pocket. While leaving the other side smooth metal as to perpetuate its already equally smooth extraction.

A thought just popped into my head...

How many of you are left handed?

nope. way too many 3" and 3 1/4" blades out there already across all brands. heck it's about all kershaw makes anymore in new models. bigger knife can do everything a smaller one can and more. unless one has legal reasons from living in an oppressive state/city and has to...i see no advantages for a 3" over a 3.5",3.75" or 4" folder. the code 4 being smaller seems silly to me other than legal reasons, but too each their own though.

The reason I used to tout a mini is because I didn't own one and I never looked up its specs, so I automatically assumed:o it had a 4 inch blade. Silly.

I definitely see your point. The biggest issue I have with the current Code 4 size is that it's too "in the middle" for my tastes. I have two different category of knives in my carry rotation. Smaller knives with a blade of 3" or so that I carry when the occasion dictates a smaller knife and larger 4" blade knives that I carry the rest of the time. The current Code 4 loses out to my Recon 1, Hold Out II, and newly acquired Swift (and I'm sure the Broken Skull will be in there once it is available) as a larger carry option. My current go-to smaller blade is the mini Recon 1. A mini Code 4 would be an ideal option in this smaller size for me and would beat out my mini Recon 1 for sure. I tried a Hold Out III for small EDC, but that handle shape just wasn't very ergonomic for me at that size.

Code 4 is a very sleek blade, not many out there can compare to. Elegant yet functional. Take it to a high society function and keep it in your tuxedo pocket. You may even forget its there, its so slim. But, if anyone asks about it, you can tell em its a "4... Code 4."

I'm actually going for the opposite. I like medium size knife and it me it means somewhere between 7.5-8.5 inches overall. it may not be much of a different between 8 and 9 inches, but the comfort in hand is just different. To me, the mini recon 1 is too small and the recon 1 is too large. American lawman/Paramilitary 2/manix 2 is great size for my hand. I wished they would shrink code 4/swift a bit so that it stays within 8-8.25 inches range. You get more secure grip when you are able to wrap your hand to the whole handle without too much sticking out.

fair points.

in a weird way i agree with your too in the middle theory, but i'd actually like a bigger cold steel. not proportionally bigger, but longer blade and handle. course i have a couple recons and large voyagers, and hold out ii as well and such so i might as well just use those. so no real need for a bigger code 4, but if it was bigger i'd carry it more often, but that's me.

As an aside, the Holdout III handle can become quite ergonomic if you are willing to put in some time with a Dremel and a respirator.
