I've always admired Spyderco's innovations in folders and focus on function over form, I'm just a niche user who prefers smaller fixed blades for almost all applications. Various shapes and types ranging from cheap neckers to my Hideaways, a mix of my application and personal style steers me towards fixed blades, and my being in Chicago requires extremely discrete designs. With the chance of frequent travel coming up, I've been evaluating everything I have for various uses...And frankly, I don't trust any of my urban EDCs for use in wet environments, let alone keeping it on when swimming or diving. I gave a friend of mine who works at a Boy Scout diving camp a Salt 1, and he's tested it enough in daily saltwater trips that I'd trust anything H1 even without a warranty. The yellow color scheme does have merit to it, my diver friend's Salt has yet to scare any of the parents he's worked with, and it's also not getting lost anytime soon.
The Salt 1 is the perfect shift for anyone who's carried a Delica or similarly sized knife, but it's just not for me with combination of the size and lock type, takes me two hands to close it because I can't get a good grip on the back-lock. The only thing smaller is the clip-less Ladybug which would be amazing in a kit or on a keychain, but isn't easy to keep around like a clipped folder or a mounted fixed. I can't blame the company for not bothering with fixed except for the Caspian, Aqua and more exotic models, a folder does the job just fine. But are there any distant chances of a smaller clipped model getting the Salt treatment? Something based off the Dragonfly would be ideal, even something more similar to the Urban models or UKPK if there's demand. I'm sure it's possible with the wonders they've done in creating the Salt line, but has there been any other demand or plans for such a knife?
