I just found this site - great source of information. I would greatly appreciate any input on my "problem".

Over here in Denmark weapon laws are very strict. I was looking for a big allround folder like the CRKT M-16-04 but fast opening folders are forbidden - you are allowed to carry a fixed blade knife though - why it should be "slower" to use I dont know :barf:

Nevermind that - I then decided on a fixed blade knife and fell in love with the HRT Combat Survival, but think the blade is a bit long and I was wondering if you know of any similar knives but with a blade around 5" ?

Best regards
Pjotr

Hi Pjotr

Another dane tuning in here! Actually it's also against the law to carry a fixed blade in "places with public access", unless you need the knife for work, is out hunting, fishing or being a scout!

Just to demonstrate the madness of this law to none-danes: A buddy of mine used to carry one of the larger locking SAK's in a belt sheath. At the time, he drove a beer truck(!) and needed the knife for cutting straps, zip ties and what have you.
One day the poor guy left the truck, went over to a vending machine, was spotted by a police officer and WHACK! Blade was a bit over the allowed 2,7" and it was confiscated!
It went along with his hunting license and the license for his two shotguns! He was fined $ 400,- and had to apply for his hunting license all over again (including pass the test) as well as pay for a new license for his guns..........! Welcome to Denmark!

Sorry Pjotr, I don't know of any real alternatives to the S&W HRT. It's a great knife, though!

The best

How about the Al Mar SERE Operator?

I haven't gained experiences with this model personally but I own the SOF Attack, I know the SERE 2000 folder and I read positive comments regarding this knife.

Maybe not a good idea to recommend a knife that I haven't handled but I ordered one and so it was the first that came in my mind as read your 5 inch limitation.

More a think about suggestion than a recommentation.
