Smaller spydie?

Hi all,

I am looking at getting a small spyderco knife. I already have a delica 4 and want something around the same size. I have been looking at the dragonfly mostly but was just wondering what other smaller spyderco knives are available. My budget is under $60. Thanks for the help!

My personal favorite "roughly Delica size" model is the Chaparral. The Native 5, all the Sage series models, Kiwi 4 and Caly 3 would be others to consider.

In the ~$60 range, your best bets are the Dragonfly 2 and Delica 4. In between those, the Cat is a great option.

Dragonfly of course. Cat is another good choice. Perhaps a Lil' Matriarch if you want something different. And consider some Byrd offerings....

Hard to beat the Cat, especially if you can find one of the non-flawed carbon fiber-scaled originals. The Dragonfly II G-10 or FRN is also a great choice, as others have responded.

The Deacon stole my thunder. Though more than $60, the Chaparral and Sage series knives are outstanding. I'd recommend handling those knives in person to get a true sense of the fit and finish on them. I think they are darn near perfect as a gentleman's folder

I'll also echo the sentiments of most of the previous posters, the Dragonfly 2 is an excellent knife. For a knife that size, it is amazing. The ergos are just off the charts in terms of function and cutting power.

The Dragonfly 2 is my go to box/letter opener. As others have said, it's a great little blade for around $50.

Even though I'm a BIG Spydie fan (exclusive carry of them and purchased 13 in 2014) the only two I want to sell are the FRN and G10 Dragonflys. I LOVE the Delica but the Dragonfly just doesn't do it for me. I think the handle is too small. I was certain I wanted a Manbug until I held one. I just can't warm up to any of them smaller than Delica... I haven't tried the Sage or Chapparal but I don't like choils so I probably wont. I DO have a BladeTech Mouse which I LOVE though...

Although I have large hands, the Dragonfly is my favorite small Spyderco. It's also the Spyderco I carry the most. It's the small knife by which I judge others.

There are others I own, of course. My impression of them: The Ladybug & Manbug are smaller than the Dragonfly and a little bit too small for my ability to use very well. The Chicago & Squeak are smaller than the Dragonfly but not too small for me to handle. The Cat is a little bit bigger than the Dragonfly and it fits me very well. The Ambitious is the bargain of the small group but it's a little heavy for the size and not as ergonomic as the Cat.

And for knives that are smaller than the Delica 4, one of my favorites is the Native LW in S30V. It's now been replaced by the Native 5 LW in S35VN. The Native is shorter than the Delica in closed length but has a longer blade. And, finally, a knife that's actually a bit longer than the Delica but thinner and narrower in profile is the Centofante 3. The Centofante has become one of my all time favorites based on its light weight, narrow profile and thin blade. That thin, hollow ground blade is like a light saber.
