Smallest locking SAK

I am looking for a first knife for my two boys. One is ten, the other is eight. I would like locking baldes for safety reasons, and SAK for the non-tactical non-paramilitary look (I live in Kalifornia).
Any help will be appreciated.

Victorinox only puts blade locks onto their largest (111mm) models. Wenger makes some medium-sized (85mm) models with locking blades.

I would suggest a non-locking SAK for a first knife. They will develop better knife safety with non-locking knives.

Wenger makes some small SAK's with lock on the main blade, I have one and like it a lot!

Anyway I agree with Stevekt. A locking blade may temp your kids to do some stupid things

Sorry for my english :o

Thanks for those last two suggestions. I had actually never considered that. I bought them each a "recruit" by Victorinix. It is smal enought for their hand and non-locking.

Thank you again

Yes, okay a lock might tempt your kid to do something more stupid...but so might a bike helmet! A good lock is safer... You just have to train your kids how to use the knife...

Dang! Can't believe I was late for this.
Anyways, no harm in taking a peek here now is there?

See "Swiss Knives" (2.10) the only two Wenger brand - Scout capable lockblade patterns available.
BTW, I suppose you would have notice the Opinel blade by now.
Looks just like a butter knife, don't it.
It would appear that your concern about safety is not unfounded afterall.
Guess its just so the boys don't tear away at each other at the next Jamboree.
But its my guess that being boys, they would get cut at some point or other.
Perhaps some band-aids would not be out of the question?

Excellent choice! I think starting kids off with a SAK is not only practical, it also reinforces the idea that a knife is a tool and not a weapon.
