Smallfly at the spa?

My smallfly has gotten pretty loose. If I send it back, will they make it good as new?

I haven't sharpened it, just flipped it a good bit.

Thanks.

Possibly, but only of you're an LEO, or active duty military. Otherwise they'd be legally barred from returning it to you.

I don't understand that, it's legal to own in most places, just not to carry in public. I've purchased balisongs from dealers that had no problem shipping them.

It's not even illegal to carry in most of the jurisdictions I frequent. Ohio knife laws are basically you can't carry a knife as a weapon. My smallfly isn't a weapon, it's a toy.

So anyways.... spa treatment?

Why? It's not illegal in my state.
It doesn't matter. Spyderco has to comply with Colorado state law and with Federal law as interpreted by the 10th Circuit Court. Since that Circuit Court considers balisongs to be gravity knives, Spyderco would be in violation of the law to ship one to anyone except an authorized dealer, a LEO, or someone on active duty with the US military. It's not fair, it's not right, but then neither is the fact that pot is legal in CO, but not here in SC. ;)

Perhaps it is time for Spyderco to go the way of Magpul and find a state that is not as restrictive to businesses.

Come on down to Texas! Magpul did for good reason.
I love Colorado and bowhunted mulies and elk there for over a decade. It's just a tough state to live and thrive in. They seem to be going more and more the way of California.

Besides, we need more knife knuts in Texas! :D

It's not the state, it's federal. As soon as the balisong crosses state lines (through shipping) and it does so on the grounds of business, it becomes "interstate commerce" and falls under federal regulation. According to federal law, it is restricted in the ways the Deacon described. That's at least how I remember it working.

I'm confused. I can purchase balisongs from out of state?

I don't think you're supposed to be able to... as I've seen a few knife retailers disclose that they cannot ship an auto or balisong to you if you're not LEO or military. I've also heard that some retailers may not pay mind to this law, but I do not know. Basically, it's something to be careful about, and knife companies do not want to step on any federal toes, as that's always been bad to do.

You guys need to update yourselves on your knife laws. Balisongs are illegal to import into the United States.

I ended up just taking it apart and cleaning it with alcohol and then using tuf-glide for lubrication. It's much smoother now, and most of the play is gone.
