I have been thinking of making the jump to a smart phone and the HTC Incredible has caught my eye. I realize that it is not the fanciest and that many have larger screens but almost anything would be an improvement and the size, weight, and cost seem appealing. I have heard that some say the battery life is unusually short though. Does anyone have any opinions on it? Does it seem like something that would be worth two years of use if purchased today?

you can't go wrong with a droid. i'v had a back flip for a year now and have yet to have any complaints

Are you stuck on that particular carrier? If not, you would have a few more options available.

The HTC Incredible is part of the Android line up. It's been around for a year or so. CES (Consumer Electronics Show) earlier this month debuted a bunch of new Android devices. When they debut, you could probably pick up an Incredible for a song, or jump straight to the newer devices.

Battery life can be extended with the proper settings (ie turn off data during screen lock, lowered brightness settings, etc), and apps that maximize battery life.

If I'm incorrect on some of these points, I'm sure someone will let us know :) Hope this helped!

Thanks for the replies so far. I am sticking with Verizon. I am pleased with the service thus far and see no reason to change.

Verizon is getting the Iphone in February, and some new Android devices in the second quarter. I'd wait just a bit, if you can.

I have heard that they might be eliminating the unlimited data plan. I might want to beat that. Also I can see paying $100 for a phone. For me $200 is pushing it.

I have the incredible. Fast as hell if u replace it with a 32 gig memory card man u can, use it for everything music photos etc. Also I think it more user Friendly than the Iphone. I would defiantly get the ottor box with it as well

I have the Incredible. It's hard to look past the battery life to be honest. I got it the day it came out (pre-ordered it online) because I wanted the latest and greatest Verizon had to offer. Task killers and other ways of extending the battery JUST make it acceptable. I've become used to bringing around a charger with me everywhere, because if you're on the internet, texting, calling people, or just using an app the phone will be dead in hours. I heard you can buy another battery which helps.

Battery life aside it's a cool phone. Very quick, responsive, large selection of cool apps.

I recommend checking out phonearena.com. It's the best cell phone website i've come across.

Good luck in your search!

From what I've read, task killers can potentially drain battery because it shuts down tasks that will pop right back up after they are shut down. The analogy used was stop and go city driving vs highway driving for better gas mileage.

I have a battery plotter and plotted battery drains for 5 days with task killers and 5 days without. Days with task killer had steeper plots (faster battery drain), days without I had from 4-8 hours more juice. This is with moderate texting, web/ facebook checking while in line, and a few calls.

This could be a reflection of my settings in combination of the task killer, so YMMV.

This entire subject is subjective, but:

I just got an HTC EVO 4G. Yes, the battery life is short. As long as you arent a heavy user, or away from a power outlet for more than 6 hours, its not a big deal. I have a desk job, so it's fine. I can just plug in while I'm at work if needed. Oh, and I came from an iPhone.

If you are coming from a plain old phone that just makes calls -- then yes, the battery life sucks. If you are coming from an EVO 4G, then the battery life is improved. Haha.

Does it seem like something that would be worth two years of use if purchased today?

Again, this is subjective. For me, I've had a smart phone since about 2001, so I cant imagine even having a regular phone without email, internet, music, etc... So yes, I think it's worth it. For my mom, she thinks anything more than just a phone that makes calls is a waste of money, so no, it's not worth it. It all depends on how useful those features are to you, and what you are willling to spend per month for it.

:D That's kind of like me asking you if it'd be worth it for me to buy a pick-up truck or not, if you know what I mean :p Everybody has different needs/wants/likes/preferences.

For *ME* though, it's def worth it. And the incredible is a great phone. However, it has almost been out for a year, and for a cell phone, that means it is nearing its EOL (end of life). So having to use a cell phone for 2 more years thats already a year old is, to me, unrealistic. But to others, not a big deal. I usually get a new cell phone every 12 months. I am a tech-geek though. Not everybody cares about cutting-edge.

Oh, and if you can wait a few months, there is a whole slew of new smart phones coming out that were announced at CES.

Good luck!

That's probably true. Certain apps start straight up immediately after killing all running apps..which doesn't make much sense. Especially Skype, an app I literally never used.
