"Give a man a sword, and he makes a knife!" Cool quote from 13th Warrior
This week I took delivery of a Cold Steel Smatchet Machete. I love the handle and blade shaped but the 14inch blade was just too long for me. OK it really isn't too long but what I wanted was a more traditional Smatchet length blade. A quick trip out to the shop, and I carefully cut off three inches from the point using a cut off wheel. I then reshaped the point to a spear point and ground in the bevels to match the factory angles. I gave the spine a slight false edge but did not sharpen it to a cutting edge. For me it is now a lot more "knife like" and handy around camp. I think the tough part is still to come when I try to figure out how to wrap Kydex around it but that will be later. Please excuse my pic quality. The lighting makes it look like the edge is burnt but I can assure you the blade was never heated to any dangerous level during the work. Before anyone asks, I am not taking orders for this mod. Just grab a Dremel and get to work. I bet a hour and a little elbow grease will get you there
