"Give a man a sword, and he makes a knife!" Cool quote from 13th Warrior :) This week I took delivery of a Cold Steel Smatchet Machete. I love the handle and blade shaped but the 14inch blade was just too long for me. OK it really isn't too long but what I wanted was a more traditional Smatchet length blade. A quick trip out to the shop, and I carefully cut off three inches from the point using a cut off wheel. I then reshaped the point to a spear point and ground in the bevels to match the factory angles. I gave the spine a slight false edge but did not sharpen it to a cutting edge. For me it is now a lot more "knife like" and handy around camp. I think the tough part is still to come when I try to figure out how to wrap Kydex around it but that will be later. Please excuse my pic quality. The lighting makes it look like the edge is burnt but I can assure you the blade was never heated to any dangerous level during the work. Before anyone asks, I am not taking orders for this mod. Just grab a Dremel and get to work. I bet a hour and a little elbow grease will get you there :)

I am going to have to pick one up for the price, I like their cheap machete's

Your mod looks great

Nice to see you play around with knives other than your own masterpiece's!!!!!!

That's rather awesome, Bill!
Okay, you're not taking orders, but if you're taking votes, next let's see what you do with a Woodsman's Pal... :)

I once owned one of those. About the only mods I could come up with for it was to sharpen the edge all the way out at the tip and a slight breaking of the edges on the woooded handle slabs. My Brother ended up getting it. It now is a permanant fixture in his ATV tool box :)
