SMF lock question. . .

hey strider owners. just picked up a smf cc and was noticing how little effort it takes to push the lock bar and disengage the blade. . . I figured it would be stiffer, like my sng or zt 560

otherwise it locks up solidly. no blade play. no lock failure.

with all the threads about sticky ti locks, I'm complaining about a fairly loose one . . .
any info would be appreciated. . . just want to know if it's normal with the smf.

My Striders are not sticky and the lock bar springiness seems to be just fine.

Sounds like it's fine. Any liner/frame lock should not have any stickiness.

I figured so. . . . just used to the zt lock where it takes a few foot pounds to unlock it lol. . .

like I said, it doesn't fail, so I'm not too worried. . . just found it a lot easier then I expected. . .

thanks again . . .

Striders really are damn near hand made knives. Each knife is different with the lock fit and more or less tension may be necessary to get the desired lockup. I've had bunches and they have all had there differences.

My SNG DGG has really hard lock tension, while others say that theres are not that hard at all. I think it really just depends and is different for every knife. Is your clip bent up at all?

my sng is a little stiffer also. . . I did bend the clip up on both but the easiness of closing the smf was there before the clip bend. . .

I think I was just expecting it to be as hard as my zt560. . . and was surprised when it wasn't. . .

now that I look at the zt, the ti lock is considerably thicker than the smf. . .
that might explain the difference in tension between the two. . . more surface area = more resistance/tension. .
anymore thoughts are welcome. . . thanks again for the replies. . .

so now I notice my smf has some lock rock . . . when my finger is on the lock bar with a little pressure, it locks fine and has no lock rock. . . (as if it needs the little nudge to fully engage )

but when flicked open, or two handed open (both I hardly do, as I like to open slowly one handed) its like the lock doesn't engage all the way. . . (it engages but a slight rock is felt if there's back pressure on the blade)

thoughts? will it go away as it wears in ? should I send it back to strider?

Both of my striders are different as well. My SMF CC is easy to unlock but it sticks a bit. My SNG is perfect in every way. easy to disengage, no stick.

As far as the lock rock dilemma. I’d let it settle in a little more before you sent it in. When you picked it up was it new?

Hey, I do understand. My SMF's have also been "easy" to operate, unlike my Umnumzaan which takes about as much oomph as I can manage.

yea it was new from a local knife shop. . . I just found a thread about the lock rock issue and others said it went away as it wore in as you have also mentioned. . .

so I'll hang on to it a while and see the outcome. . . doesn't seem like it will fail. . . even with the rock it still locks up pretty good. . . again, if I open it with a little pressure on the bar, it's solid. . .

thanks again for the replies. .

Striders differ a bit in their springiness. But I actually prefer an easily disengaged lock... as long as you're using the knife properly you're not going to unlock the knife accidentally.

I got my first Chris Reeves small Seb not long ago, about a week and a half, and I keep having trouble unlocking it because the clip rests on the frame lock bar, and my middle finger rests on the clip whenever my thumb is pushing to unlock.

Looking back onto my other knives, I realized theyre mostly liner locks, but the ones with frame locks have the clip resting against the frame. tsk tsk CRK...
