Scored a SMIII Kukri for $80 (+$20 shipping) on the bay. Condition was listed as used, but it looked very good, and definitely legit, so had to do it. Got it yesterday, and sadly the upper 3rd of the blade has some chips/rolls in the edge that weren't visible in the pics. Most should come out with a sharpening, but a couple are a bit deeper. Oh well, still feel like it was a great deal.

Still a good score for the SMIII Kukri. MSRP was $699.99. I should still have a couple NIB somewhere in my workshop, along with a Carbon V user.

The SMIII Kukris have a very large radius convex edge, this mimics an acute flat-ground edge (great for cutting, not so much for strength/toughness) If you reprofile with a smaller radius, which mimics a more obtuse flat-ground edge, you will have a more chip/roll resistant edge. Tom Veff does outstanding work with convex edges.

Decided to give it a go myself with my WorkSharp. Thought I was going to have to freehand it, like I do with the lawnmower blades, but turns out the blade fit into the guide pretty well, so just did it that way. Turned out pretty good...still a remnant of that one big chip, but overall not too bad. And what blade story would be complete without getting bit? At one point I was holding it by the blade (near the spine) instead of the handle, and not paying attention, one of my fingers curled around the narrow part of the blade near the ricasso and the edge went in like butter just from the pressure.
