So I pulled the trigger on a new watch recently, the Smith and Bradley Ambush watch with the black PVD coating. On paper it does everything that I want in a watch, it looks pretty cool and is made in the US by a US company.

It arrived today.

In hand, it is a nice looking watch and it arrived well packaged, but the low battery indicator went off within 5 minutes of unboxing and before the time could even be set.

And therefore back in the box and back to Smith and Bradley it goes. Terribly disappointing quality control for a $600 watch. I ordered it and it shipped directly from the manufacturer.

Anyone else have any experience with these? Should I deal with the hassle of making an exchange or just return it for a refund?

I'd like to hear your experiences. Thanks.

The movement isn't American. It's a Swiss quartz movement so not really an American made watch. And it's very expensive for what it is. I'd return it for refund it and look elsewhere for a different watch.

Their Sans 13 model sells for $450, and it has a Swiss Ronda quartz movement you can buy for less the $20 each while buying only a single movement vs. bulk. Consider the movement the very heart of a watch and akin to the power train of an automobile. Not sure which Swiss movement the Ambush uses, but if the Sans 13 is any indicator, I consider the Ambush definitely not worth the coin they want.

Great points. Thanks for the information.

Seiko makes some really great watches for good prices. I have one of their Solar models and it has been flawless for 2 years.

I bought a Smith and Bradley a couple years back and I don't like it at all . The analog hands seem to drift all the time from the time on the LCD.

I ended up with a Casio... both analog and digital... like it better than the Smith and Bradley for sure.
