Smith and Wesson HRT Dagger

I was less than impressed with this knife. Had it for about a week. Size and weight were good, but the handle wrap started to immediately unravel like a hollow rope neckchain before I even used it. Unless you are going around thrusting things (?) I feel the blade shape is quite limited. For under $20, maybe, otherwise no way. Had a S&W neck knife, the tip of it chipped off within 48 hours. I understand 440c is a fine enough steel with the right heat treat, etc, but that shouldn't have happened. Don't think I'd buy another S&W product right now.

What handle wrap?

Phil, the S&W dagger I received didn't have a handle like that. Mine was just like a rubber slip-on kind of thing.... strange. It wasn't stacked or ribbed like your photo. ? Maybe older version? I don't know.

I have an old S&W boot knife that is about 12-15 yrs old. The blade looks remarkably similar to the one Phil is holding. Same coating, same blood groove.

Most knives of this type have a short or "rat-tail" tang.
I read in an ad somewhere that this one has a longer if not "full" tang. Can anyone confirm?

I like the pattern as a last ditch piece, but I've heard of some failures in the handle construction in boot knives of this type. I know of one such that the blade literally fell out of the handle.
If this one has a longer tang with better handle texture, could be a good cheapie.
