anyone know anything more about that knife? what the weight is, what the thickness is, how it handles?

kind of stumbled upon the new search and rescue knives from smith and wesson, and was throughroly (sp?) suprised by the designs, the spearpoint especially. also noted a new entry into the production khukuri feild wich id also be interested in handling -

but mainly id like to know about the spearpoint... it looks like it would be a good camp knife, in that limbo half chopper half knife range.

According to the Taylor Cutlery site, the weight is 13.8 ounces. I've been looking at this knife myself, mainly because of the cheap price. But I'm afraid this will more than likely reflect on the quality, especially on such a large blade. I wouldn't expect top of the line heat treat. I'd also be real interested in seeing what the blade-tang junction is like. There might be some unwanted stress points.

i was really amazed to see the swsur2 knife (the basic kabar style search and rescue knife from them) was only 7.4oz - their boot dagger (the nice one, black coated) is only 7.7oz, and that thing is as light as a feather. and small, i thought considerably smaller then the swsur2 because its a dagger...

they dont have the swsur8 at the shop near me (the spearpoint) but they do have the swsur7 (the bowie) wich i'll handle in the shop, and if its anything reasonable (below 40) i'll probably end up buying both...

from what i've seen on my stepdads swat folder - its probably around 56rc wich is soft, but enough that it'll maintain under use for a reasonable amount of time. the reason im getting those two blades is to be able to give them to other people when i go camping, not for personal use (for wich i have a terror monkey battle mistress, among an assortment of other high end blades).

i honestly think that while you will notice the poor performance, kind of like a car that is nice, good power, but only gets 16mpg, it will be good enough to satisfy.... and i really like the general style...
