So I just received my Smith Sharpening System in the mail and so far... I hope it works better on 1095. I started on my main folder in S30V, and after an hour, its still not hair splitting. I guess it takes longer to reprofile a blade than I thought. Ill let you know more as I work more with it.

On another note, I am collecting a new hobby. I ordered a lock pick set and plan on practicing on master locks. I hear its alot like puzzle working. I'm pretty pumped about trying it out. I'm also thinking about learning German. My wife's family is German and I swear they talk about me when I'm right there...

Wow man, 2 new hobbies in 1 day?! I always wanted to learn lock picking, my work offers classes on it I'm just too lazy to go back to work after I get off.

yeah, i read the basic instruction online and i figure with the right tools and lots of time, i can get it. I'm a quick learner.

re-profiling a knife takes longer than just sharpening it back up form work-dull... s30v is harder than a frozen witch's sapphires ;) based on actual clinical trials, a witch's classically referred to feature as being cold are actually quite warm and appearling - go figure.

so, expect that s30v is be like a hobby unto itself :> you might even wear out material doing it. 1095 is a cinch.

oddly enough, my Edge-Pro came in today. i've got my convenient block of glass clean and ready to go, and when it's a bit cooler, i'll be sitting on my porch sharpening ... everything i've used, and then some. already before arrival, i have friends lined up to have their knives fixed at a camp i'm going to shortly.

picking locks is great fun, and occasionally useful.

pretty sad that the classic circular locks (old kryptonites) can be defeated by a simple bic pen :) as fast as the actual key in some cases.

i saw press some months ago about someone making lockpicks for sale as part of a new start up - modern technologically made stuff. mmm!

can't help you on the german, but if you think they are, they probably are. time to learn about poisons too.

They do, that's how we are. I'd love to help you with your German, it's a bitch to learn right. The point about speaking good German is learning all the grammatics and then forgetting about 75% of it. That's what most people in Germany do anyway :D

Sound like my English and Spanish! Lol, I knew nothing of grammar until I learned Spanish. I still think if my grammar in Spanish and translate to English. I'm pretty sure for a while at least my German with have a Spanish flair. Lol.

I have a Smith-made, Buck-branded 3-stone block (the triangular thing with two diamond plates). Putting a new edge on a carbon steel knife is hard enough, and similar to re-profiling. I wouldn't want to try one of the super steels! But it sure will do the job. My latest O1 knife is ridiculously sharp after some time on the block and then about 5 minutes with the ol' nail-file strop. Big bald patch on my arm. You'll be very happy with how your tools work on Ka-Bar's steel, which is very similar to O1, I think.

I think the OP is up to some big German diamond heist. I am still trying to figure where the Smith Sharpening System comes in. ;)

I'm really liking this KME Sharpener. Ron fixed all the problems with the Lansky's system. Don't get me wrong, Lansky's are fine sharpeners.

Plus, I like that KME is all American made, and packaged, even the foam comes from a US supplier. It costs more, but works much better. Plus, it works with other stones, steels, and diamond hone makers out there too.

I'm still checking it out, but its done really good so far. I'll be reviewing it soon.

I think this is German:

I was listening to it and my sister walked by and started singing. I think they're saying inse, zvy, dry, ver. I have no idea lol. I think that means one, two, three, four.

Thanks Bladite for the video lol.

The funny thing about Laibach is that they are from Slovakia or Romania or something like that, and that their German is about the worst I've ever heard. Horrible accent. Not something to learn good German from :D
