Smith & Wesson Badge Knife

S&W are NOT known for quality knives. They are basically junk. I would suggest staying away from it.

Do you plan to use it as a box opener?

If not, I suggest you look for Emerson LaGriffe.

I have not found that to be true. I have 6 S&W knives, and NONE of 'em are junk, IMO. The older S&W knives might have been junk, but the "new breed" seem to be a pretty good value for the money.

I have a S&W that I've used daily for 3 years and its still almost perfect. I guess I got lucky and got a decent one.

My friend bought a bunch of S&W knives at a wholesale store for like two bucks a pop. We tried using them but they developed play lik eyou would'nt believe and the steel on them was garbage. We eventually welded the locks to the blade and used them as throwers.

Other than leasing out their name/logo, S&W has nothing to do with those knives. They're made by Taylor Cutlery in China, and they're very sub-par. Better than MTech or Maxim (but what isn't?), but far below the cheaper Kershaws or Byrd knives. If you can find one with good lock-up, the blade doesn't hit a standoff when closed, and for less than $20, you've got a decent enough beater blade. But I've seen too many with poor lock-up, design flaws (like the blade hitting a standoff when closed), and the like to recommend buying one without handling and cherrypicking one first. Places like Big5 often have sales of S&W knives for about $15. Don't spend more one one. Get a Kershaw or Byrd or Buck instead.
