Hello...new to BF and hoping to get a little advice. I am curious if anyone can help in determining a value for a set of (4) Smith & Wesson Collectors Series knives...these were purchased by my grandfather in the late 70's. He gave them to me 30+ years ago and have been in a safe since. The set is numbered #794 and are housed in their wooden cases with the "S&W" logo on the bottom left corner. I believe that Blackie Collins designed these knives, but not seeing a lot of info out there on them. Thank you in advance for any help.IMG_3613.jpegIMG_3611.jpegIMG_3609.jpegIMG_3607.jpeg

Ok, I'll be the one. 😁

Welcome to Bladeforums. You need to be a Gold member or higher to ask for valuations on this forum. This is to prevent everybody and their cousin from filling the forum with posts asking for valuations for every knife they own, their family owns, every knife they find at flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores, etc, etc, etc.

If you want to learn more about becoming a Gold member, click on "Paid Subscriptions" in the blue banner across the top of the screen. Becoming a Gold member costs $30 for a one year membership, and it comes with a number of other benefits like being able to sell knives on this forum.

Didn't mean to break protocol. Gold membership should now be displayed on my account. I'm not looking for a freebie...just solid advice from experienced individuals.

It looks to me like 794 is the production number, as in 794 of 1000. And it looks to me that they were made in 1974. And you are right about them being designed by Blackie Collins.

Here's what I've found. Two models identical to yours with the Grizzly bear on the blade sold at Arizona Customs, one in 2020, the other in 2022, each sold for $350. Arizona Customs is an online knife consignment shop. It is commonly used to see what knives are selling for.

One with the deer on the blade sold in 2021 for $360.

One with the eagle on the blade (Don't Tread On Me) sold in 2021 for $285.

I can't find a price for the ram model, but I found an auction listing from 2020 for all four of your models sold together for $1265.

If you were going to sell them, they would likely be more valuable sold as a set due to the identical production numbers.

Very nice set. Any ideas who made these BC designed Survival series for S&W back then?
I'm guessing in the 70s they were made in house.

From what I read they were made in house.
Yes that is what I found as well and another source stated that even though a 1,000 sets were to be produced that in actuality it was @ 800 finally made. Also, that just because my set is #794 that #793 may not have been manufactured. Thank you for the info as well.

Thank you very much for the detailed info...I am still continuing to dig too.

I worked at S&W in late 70s...their knives WERE made in house...their leather division was a few miles away.

They sold their "seconds" knives to employees with a "2" stamped on the brass.
I still have an Outdoorsman with the stamp
Rarely see them....pretty cool to own.
....the error was the logo on blade didn't get a full hit.
Has a sheath without a strap...brass guard pushes securely "into" the sheath.
Peace Dave

Was the etching done by S&W? Thanks.
