Smith & Wesson Military & Police MAGIC

I'm not a big fan of S&W edged tools.

The first thing I look at is blade steel and this is listed as "stainless" in the link you posted which tells us nothing.

Is the "tactical" look intended to go well with your fixed blade? What is the fixed blade you have? That may help with some ideas.

Unless that look is what you're after on this particular folder I would think you would be getting a better knife from Kershaw or Benchmade and Spyderco in the $35 to $60 price range.

Are you dead set on AO and combo edge? If your fixed blade is going to be carried along with the folder and it has a combo edge you may want to consider a PE for the folder.

I'd take a look at what you can get from Spyderco and Kershaw for the $40-$60 dollar range. A Spyderco Tenacious is a hell of a deal!

Its got Military, and Police in the name! it must be good.

Seriously, The Chinese love making 'mean looking' knives... it'll look mean when the AO weakly pushes the blade up about half way, the pivot falls out the side, and the blade comes down on your foot.

Go for something a bit 'better' quality.

good point, id really like a comprimise though :)

What for and where would you like to use it?

Is it meant to make potential rapists shake in their boots? or will you be deanimating boxes, envelopes and such?

id like a knife that can carry out its threatening look, with the ability to be batonned through an occasional stick

Batonning is not the province of folding knives. You usually want stainless steel with superior edge retention in a folding knife. These are not the properties that make for ideal batonning steel.

Here is a knife that looks threatening and would likely "carry out its threatening look":

This is some of the best S&W out 4034 steel Taiwan made.Magic system is very nice.

Been through 12 S&W folders in my younger days (2 years ago, knife nublet)

I'd spend my money on an equivalent Kershaw. OD-1, tactical blur, tanto cyclone, tanto groove all come to mind as mean looking.

I've no idea why anyone would seriously expect to be able to baton a folding knife. No folding knife should be expected to survive that procedure.

With Taylor Cutlery, you get hit or miss quality, usually leaning toward mediocre, which means the Magic is as likely to be poor as it is to be adequate. In terms of its styling, none of the individual features is particularly offensive, but taken as a whole, my first reaction to the knife was, "Yuck." The blade actually looks like it would make a good tactical edge, in terms of its ability to cut and thrust, but there's something about the styling that just turns me off.

I like the S&W folders, but they're for medium duty only. I have a magic and it seems reasonably solid, but I really don't trust the locks on S&W and don't consider them a good choice for defensive purposes.
