Has anyone been able to get their hands on one? I've been looking for a while, and haven't come across one yet. Actually I did put my hands on one last year, but then I had $600 worth of truck repairs come up so the gun was put on hold. I want a slim, concealable 9 and this one felt great. I don't know if it's worth the hassle of running all over the place trying to find one though, or if I should just get an LC9 or something. For those of you who own or have shot one what do you think?

I was looking for one of these a few months ago, but I refuse to pay the current price. S&W seemingly has never been able to keep up with demand.

I have not bought one yet but have handled them. In my large hands the Shield fits better than the LC9, which I have shot and handled a few times.
As far as price goes, just find someone who has a FFL and make them your dealer. You can handle different models at a brick and mortar shop then ask your dealer to order you one. Most often they will be cheaper.

The estimable "Hickock45" on YouTube gave it a positive review, but I know nothing about availability. I'm looking for a compact auto as well for my "retirement gun" (I've got a couple more years of police work in me..).
There are so many....
Glock, SIG, Ruger, S&W....many more, and most all pretty well-reviewed. Still researching.

Got mine when they first came out. It's my EDC (except at work). Love it. Paired with a simple DeSantis OWB mini scabbard, very comfortable and concealable. Recommended.

I've been wanting one as it's striker fired, and has a trigger similar to my XD. Currently I have the LC9; and while it's accurate, and very concealable, It has a double action trigger, similar to that of a revolver. I have trained myself on the trigger and am a fairly good shot with the LC9, however follow up shots still take me some time to fire down range accurately.

I refuse to pay the current inflated prices due to the political climate. I will wait until everything quiets down. For now, the LC9 is just fine. It's still a great little gun, besides its mag safety, and loaded when up shark fin chamber indicator.

Finding a range that rents guns is a great way to try before you buy and see what you like. In terms of price, there have been local gun shops and reputable online retailers that still have them priced at pre bs retail prices. You just have call every day or be in the right place at the right time to get one. One of the local shops had a 9mm shield on the shelf for 2 days last week.

Bought mine the day it came out. Its a great gun and I would highly recommend it. That is if you can find one :)

I guess my local gun store has one for 399. I just might trade in my lc9 for the shield. I'm still thinking about it. This thread has awakened the want to get the pistol. Part of me says maybe just get a compact because at 19 ounces, I dunno. A g26 is the same weight and has a 10 round capacity, plus it can accept g 17 mags, etc...

I don't own either but I've shot both the LC9 and the 9mm Shield. Shield is a better pistol with a much better trigger. Having said that, it's also quite a bit more expensive and assuming you know how to stage a DA trigger, the LC9 shoots great too (for less cash). Either would carry just fine.

9 Shield is fine, so is the SR22 pictured with it.

Was on a wait list with my LGS. Suggest that and be patient..worked for the Shield and two(2) Ruger SR1911's..patience is a learned characteristic for most folks. More harmonious outcomes.. and all that.

Best.

Never been a fan of the Shied. Never fit my hand right, recoiled odd (both 9 and 40), and it just didn't get me excited. For some reason people go ape over some of Smith's semi autos lately (Bodyguard 380 and the Shield) and I don't know why.

LC9 is okay, but still not sold just because the polymer is slicker (my problem with a lot of polymer frame pistols).

I have had one since they came out in 9mm. It is a very nice, reliable, carry pistol. Fits in a larger pocket if needed, easy to carry IWB or AWB, light weight, and plenty of firepower. I like the added feature of a thumb safety that will allow full functioning/cycling of the gun while on the "safe" position. Use it or not, it is a nice feature to have.
I have over a thousand rounds through it without a issue of any kind. Mostly my hand loads, but a few range pickups just for testing purposes. I did change the sights to Ameriglo i-dots as I wanted a vertical dot/night sight system. Overall this is one great pistol at a very competitive price. Mine was $399 and I think list is still $449.

I just picked up a Smith Shield 9mm today. Traded in my ruger lc9 with 4 mags for 230 bucks. I paid 350 for the lc9 itself. Then I paid 167 dollars out of pocket for the shield. I'm still happy.

I get better sights, striker fire trigger, melonite finish...And it actually barely fits my desantis cozy partner lc9 holster. Only downside is I can't stick 2 smith mags in my blackhawk mag pouch like I could with the lc9, as the shield's magazine isn't single stack, but kind of staggered.

I'm still happy. Off to the range.....

To the op, thanks for bringing the shield back into my mind. I'm happy with my trade.

Thanks for the input, guys. I may try to stop by the nearby range this weekend and see if they have one I can rent. I did get on a waiting list for one a week or so ago, but who knows when they'll get any in. I hate to contibute to the hysteria that's going on with guns, but if I get the chance at one while I've got the money I'll probably jump on it.
