Not the current Chinese stuff, these were designed by Blackie Collins and made in house by Smith
The folder was outsourced to an USA knife company
Anyone else into these?
Very nice. My brother has the plain bowie at the top of the thread. I always wonder what it's worth today. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they were made by Gerber. At least the folders.
They were made in-house at this point, the fixed blades anyway.
The 6060 Folder pictured was outsourced to Alcas, a partnership between Alcoa & Case, which later became part of Cutco.
This original series was 75-80 or so IIRC
Smith & Wesson had a second series of knives around 80-81, the Maverick folder is the one that I remember specifically, there was also a swing out design knife.
The blade was inset into the handle, which swung out and around.
These were made by S&W at their Houlton plant.
My Dad has a drop point hunter like the bottom pic in the first group pics. His isn't as embellished and doesn't have the pommel, its "bare headed" I guess. Fit'n'finish is immaculate imho, the hollow handle version is a grail knife for me. Hollow handle survival knives was all the rage when I was a kid, most were garbage but I remember an magazine ad with the S&W. It was like comparing a thrift store bicycle to a 64 panhead
Here is a Smith & Wesson 6060 Folding Hunter I recently picked up.
Production was in the second half of the 1970's. Blackie Collins design.
Very nice fit & finish, no gaps, no blade play, nicely ground.
