Just picked up a smith's kit at the Px here in an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia(opsec) and had a bunch of pogs(paper money that the Px uses to save on shipping heavy coins) that I had to get rid of had and decided to get something at least knife related. I am actually pretty impressed, it comes with a coarse and fine diamond stone and medium arkansas cut at a V for serrations and holder that can maintain a 20 or 25 degree angle. All for the whopping price of $23 , been impressed so far, it makes quick work of sharpening and gets most knives to a working edge fast, got my spderco to shaving sharp in about 20 minutes. The only downfall though is I'm now sharpening the knives of everyone in my platoon.

I have seen more and more of the Smith's sharpening products in stores. They offer a great value and seem to be of good quality. I have not used many of their products yet, but I think they are getting very popular. Thanks for the review and keep 'em sharp.

I have a set of their large diamond bench stones and they have performed very well and held up just as well as the DMT stones at half the price. Enjoy your sharpening set.;)

Diamonds for $23 is a deal (gotta get me some of those pogs:D). Go with what works. It's entirely appropriate to charge a beer or two for sharpening a buddy's knife. Thanks for your military service.:)

abey67--- I have been considering coarse and fine Smith's benchstones (11.5") for re-profiling work and to use to flatten my waterstones. Do you have any experience with same? Are the Smith's stones reasonable flat?

Beer here won't do nothing but give you gas and empty calories. I appreciate the practice I get on other people's knives though and they appreciate getting a sharp knife so it works out for both parties. That and helps kill some time as we are on short time till we leave and often don't have all that much to do so it helps me kill time and I find it relaxing.

Zeasor-- Those are the exact stones that I have. They are as flat as any DMT stones which are very flat and are fairly reasonable for reprofiling. If you have alot of stock removal I would get the DMT XXcoarse stone. I have the DMT XXcoarse that I use strickly for this purpose. Hope that helped.;)
