I was just at Lowe's and on a whim I bought a Smith's brand diamond stone...the kind with the built-in "hook sharpener." Is this stone as crappy as I think it is? I haven't even opened it yet, and I only paid like six bucks for it...Whatcha think? :o

It will work but if its anything like the diamond oval I have from them its not going to work that well. I would recommend DMT.

It is not your goto stone but there is nothing wrong with it for quick touchups in the field or at work. I keep one in my toolbag when doing drywall to touch up my utility knife to get a more cuts out of the blade.

If it's anything like the inexpensive Gerber's I bought on closeout a couple years back they'll lose their diamonds and aggressiveness a lot faster than a DMT (or Eze-Lap) but will give pretty good service for a while.

Thanks, all. I assumed it was of inferior quality, but like I said, I just bought it on a whim with some hardware. :o
