Just thinking, most of my kitchen knives get the water on diamond stone or kitchen steel treatment. Just by coincidence the outdoorsy blades see the stone more often. Is a honing oil like Smith's leave unsafe residue for food prep and such? If so is there a better option for my stone and food knives? Any help is appreciated.

The little bit left on the blade won't hurt you. Maybe if you took the whole bottle and downed it but who's really going to do that? It may give a bitter taste to your food though, I'd suggest wiping it off before using it on food to get rid of that.

I wash the knife with warm soap and water afterward. The bottle I have doesn't list ingredients other than "non-petroleum" so wasn't sure if there were harmful chemical agents in the stuff or not. Thanks.
